Part 1:
Kai sat in the middle of her living room floor, her legs crossed in her lap in the Lotus position. Kat had turned her onto yoga and meditation last week during her trip to California. Her lips curled into a smile as she recalled the flurry of activities Kat had dragged her onto. That smile stretched into a full grin as she remembered Kat cutting through a crowd by shouting she was helping a blind lady.
"Stop thinking about her and regulate your breathing," said a soft voice in her ear.
"I'm trying."
Kai took a deep breath and started breathing just the way Kat had taught her, trying to hear her own heartbeat. Her eyes closed, she was unable to see the pretty brown haired woman doing a balancing act on the back of her couch. She'd heard her voice, telling her to regulate her breathing, but Kai had dismissed it as her conscience. She had no way of knowing it was her very own genie.
"Kai, Kai, Kai, whatever am I going to do with you?"
The genie sat down on the couch, crossing her legs in the same position as Kai, her elbow resting lightly on her knee.
"How can I make you see what I see when I look at you, how can I make you believe in what I believe in?"
As Kai meditated, her genie thought and thought until she thought her perfect little genie mind would explode. Well, in some cases, even she would have to call for help. And so, she called in some reinforcements. Her friends appeared, the redhead and the one with the shiny blond hair.
"This had better be important," the redhead said, waving her hand in front of Kai, "we were about to entice Jeff Hardy and Hunter into a shower."
"Would they have known why?"
"No," said the blonde, sitting next to Kai's genie,
"more fun that way. So, why are we here?"
"I need help."
"What else is new?" replied the fiery redhead, levitating above Kai's head.
"Genie Lita, if you can't be nice, go away."
"Ask and you shall receive, genie Stephanie."
Sticking her tongue out at the one who'd called for her, Lita disappeared, leaving Kai's genie with genie Trish.
"She's young. And eager to see how Jeff and Hunter have managed without us."
"I know."
"So what seems to be the problem?"
"This human has me stumped."
"Why?"
"Do you see her aura?"
Trish turned to Kai and was awed by her aura. It was vibrant and bright and warm and of such a beautiful mix of blue and white, two colors that showed she had a pure and creative soul.
"So beautiful," Trish whispered, reaching out to Kai's aura, not quite touching it.
"You are so lucky."
"Thank you."
"And what, pray tell, is the problem?"
"The beauty you and I see, she doesn't see, doesn't recognize. She thinks the scars of her face and body have been transmitted to her psyche and soul."
"She thinks she's ugly?"
Trish blinked a few times and focused on Kai's face. It was always difficult for her to see humans through human eyes, to see beyond their souls to their physical flaws and features.
"I fail to understand. These markings, did she make them to herself?"
"No," genie Stephanie whispered softly,
"somebody else did."
"So, her beauty was not marred, his soul died for destroying her so."
"But she does not see that. And unfortunately, most humans do not have the ability to see the truth of another's soul."
"That is a shame. If they could, they would realize how precious a jewel they have in their midst."
"A few do. She calls them her Magnificent Seven. One of them was here this past week. Kat her name is. She wants so much for Kai. She prays for her in her own way. They all do. And they don't pray for the scars to go away, they pray for Kai to find someone to appreciate her as they do."
"Now," Trish asked, rocking back on the bare heels of her feet,
"how can I help?"
"Yours, the one you protect."
"Oh yes, him. He has the gift."
"Exactly."
"How do we make this happen?"
"I have an idea."
