The Silence

The music's blasting from the CD player
Wyclef Jean's "Ecleftic", good beats...
TV's playing in the living room
"Sabrina the Teenage Witch", dumb adaptation...

But the silence is there
Working its way
Through the lyrics and notes
Through the dialogue and words

It finds me
Finds me where I hid
Trying to bury my thoughts
With the words I try to weave into a tapestry

I jump in fright
I didn't want you there, I tell it
But I am here, it responds
I found you

It found me
It always finds me
In the noisiest venues
In the most crowded places

The silence finds me
It always does
Because silence thrives when 'twin'-ed
And the silence of my heart suits it just fine

So as I sit here,
Surrounded by the friends
Who ignore me
Silence finds me and kills me
