Sean Swift's Smackdown! Report!!!

What Worked

Kaientai sings Bon Jovi, while the APA looks on in approval. It doesn't get more surreal than that, folks.

Why can't Foley do what he did to Shane every show? Still, one night free from constant interference was pretty cool in my book.

Al Snow carries Saturn to a nifty match, that was altogether too short. Not only does he hit the moonsault on TV for once, but he also busted out a nice Japanese armdrag. Saturn actually tries a little, hitting a plancha and a Northern Lights Suplex. Even Terri got into the spirit, taking a nice bump to the outside. The finish sealed the match's place up here, with the SWANKY little legsweep-into-Rings of Saturn combo.

37 SECOND POSE~! The rest is down there.

The Undertaker squashes both guys in DX. Hey, at least he was beating anyone with talent, and X-Pac also got to "do the honors". Works for me, especially cause it was short.

The Benoit-Jericho interview segment was funny, if a little long. At least they kept both in character, and that was a nice picture of Jericho in the Crippler Crossface.

The first 6-man tag wasn't really much of anything wrestling-wise, but it was mildly entertaining and wasn't completely offensive...So, I guess it can sneak up here.

What Didn't Work

Hey, we have the Suicide Blondes, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and the Hardy Boys in the same ring...I know, let's give them just 2:30 to work with! Yeah, great! Fuck you, Vince.

Awww...Eddy and Chyna each want the other to have the belt...how sweet. But no, there's no swerve coming...what would make you think that? I smirk.

Rikishi/Godfather was short and all, but lord, did it suck hard in the short amount of time it was given. Again, one good Samoan Drop, but I'm not in as giving a mood as I was on Tuesday.

Hey, Taz has kidnapped JR! Hey, they did another broken-glass spot! Hey, this angle sucks!

The opening promo, as usual, was way too long, and featured way too much bad acting for my tastes. So, really, it was more of the same. Speaking of which, I'll just lump the main event into this paragraph, since that too was more of the same. Steph's highly-contrived injury meant Lita was just a spectator...so, it was just the usual Angle/HHH/Rock main-event type stuff. I do think the Summerslam match'll be pretty good, but I'm tired of these main events that are more soap opera than Professional Wrestling.

Oh look, Angle slips her the tongue...I must sound so silly when I try to convince people that it's not THAT much like a soap opera. Sigh.

And there you go...
