Background Information About MACBETH
Setting
Scotland, during the dark ages. There is a rebellion and a war with the Vikings taking place. Most of the play takes place at Macbeth's castle.
Characters
Macbeth -- goes good to evil. Easily influenced. Went from brave soldier to homicidal maniac.
Lady Macbeth -- unusual woman of power. She is forceful and insults her husband's weaknesses.
Banquo -- originally friend to Macbeth. Loyal until he becomes suspicious.
Plot
Macbeth is loyal to King Duncan and plays a major part in defeating the war and the rebellion. Witches tell him he will be King. King Duncan then appoints Prince Malcolm to be the next King. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth murder King Duncan and Macbeth becomes King. In order to secure his reign he goes on a murderous rampage. When he kills Macduff's family, Macduff (with Prince Malcolm) declare war on Macbeth. Macbeth is killed, and Malcolm becomes King of Scotland.
