The Founder's Personality

Back to main page

I know their personality may differ from other people's ideas but this is just how I developed them. Please don't be mad if you see Salazar making moves on Rowena and Godric acting like a big kid! ;) The founders

Godric Gryffindor

My version of this great wizard: he has shocking red hair (a freakish spell in his youth caused him to accidentally highlighted the color - now it can actually glow in the dark with a slight reddish hue) and greatly favors the colors of maroon and gold. He wears a pointed black hat on his head and a ruby encrusted sword on his left side. Note: the sword was a gift from a Galadriel wanna be.

Bravery is his creed and this makes him the logical choice of leader, capable of making difficult decisions yet maintaining his cool. However, his 'I-fear-nothing!' attitude has on more than one occasion gotten the Founders into a few tight situations. Godric brings to the founders strength and nerve - never backing down and always pushing forward. He's often the optimistic one, with grit and determination etched on his face. But as he matures into the great wizard he shall soon be; Godric begins to understand that there is more ways than one to show bravery.

On the emotional side, Godric is still quite playful and has a strong sense of adventure. A little childish at times, he loves teasing Salazar and competing with the dark-haired wizard. He and Salazar are the best of friends in these fics, having spend sometime roaming around together before meeting Rowena and Helga.

Minor tidbit - Gyffindor is a multi animagi. This is impossible because even achieving animagi status show great power but Godric is indifferent to all this as he has been shifting forms since a kid. Which makes him the obvious candidate to teach transfiguration.

Rowena Ravenclaw

A quiet and pensive witch, Rowena spent most of her life in the company of books. She has long and straight luxurious brownish black hair. Her eyes are blue yet there is a piercing stare in them - sparkling the wealth of knowledge she possess. The shortest of the Founders she makes it up for being the most intelligent of them all.

Being born a female, her father had been awfully protective of his only daughter, locking her up within Ravenclaw Keep for most of  her life. Unable to step into the outside world, the little girl immersed herself in the massive labyrinth of books her wizard father owned, learning all she could of the world beyond the Keep. She became the most knowledgeable Ravenclaw in all the world and that's saying a lot because her family was renowned for their intelligence. This made her father very proud but he still couldn't help but feel protective towards her.

Once leaving Ravenclaw Keep with her new-found friends, Rowena began expanding her wings, and upon founding Hogwarts, she began transferring much of her books there - so much so until an entire section of the castle had to be dedicated to her. this was the origin of Hogwarts library.

The symbol of her father was the eagle and she herself had a pet owl called Nightshade. When her father died, she made the eagle her house symbol, in honor of the man she much loved.

Helga Hufflepuff

The least famous of all the Founders had curled brown-gold hair and freckles on her cheeks. Helga was always laughing, a constant smile on her lips. A very helpful and accommodating witch, she was well-loved by all the students. She was a big woman with an even bigger heart. However, she was often the victim of much of Salazar's pranks causing slight amenity between the duo. She could never stay angry at anyone for long and revenge never even entered her vocabulary.

Aware that she was the weakest among the four (much reminded by Salazar), Helga constantly struggles to better herself. She believes everything can be achieved by sheer determination and honest hard-work. Try, try, try...and TRY again.

Helga is the first witch in her family with enough power to make a statement, yet she hid it, fearing the strength of her magic as compared to her siblings and parents. Her meek nature caused many to take advantage over the never-complaining servant girl. Her life was radically changed when she followed the trio to discover herself and shape her destiny.

Salazar Slytherin

A crafty wizard with a resourceful mind, I have devised a different personality for this dark wizard. Please don't be mad when I say that he's actually 'nice'. Sorry, no sudden burning of building and killing of muggles and random sacrificing of babies. Salazar in my stories is just your (much higher than) average wizard. He's extremely ambitious and desires badly to make his family name known throughout the land. Salazar is very powerful and makes no attempt to hide it; he sneers at lesser wizards and witches (who only use their magic to water gardens or enchant bucket wells to draw themselves up) but has grudgingly found great respect and mutual admiration in Godric, Rowena, and yes, even bubbly annoying Hufflepuff (he refuses to call her by her first name).

Salazar's ambitious nature has made him come up with the most outrageous plans as he firmly believes that since they were gifted with such incredible powers, they had to do something incredible. Salazar drives everyone around him to achieve their highest potential, which actually caused all of Hogwarts students (at that time) to become the most famous wizards and witches of all time. Ex. Diagon, Morgena, Nimbus.

He has a pet snake wound around his neck but the creature is so lazy it almost passes of as some odd type of scarf. Able to speak Parsel-tongue, Salazar has a close affinity for snakes and usually dressed up in green with silver trimming. Both him and Godric often ridicule each other's sense of taste.

History: Salazar's parents were killed by muggles - his father was stabbed and his mother was burned alive, both their wands broken. He was saved by a brilliant white snake (whom he latter learned was his animagi aunt) and later, at the age of fifteen, cursed the entire village and changed them all into snakes. Ouch. Because of this he has much anger towards muggles and wants absolutely nothing to do with them.
