Soundtrack Ratings

Final Fantasy V: Soundtrack Created by: Nobuo Uematsu

Style: Traditional

Rating: 6

Why: Sure everyone loves the SNES beats. But GOD, can they get annoying. I often find myself listening to head-phones while I play this game (listening to the X-2 soundtrack of course :-D). My favorite songs are the ones that sound familiar. Or the ones in later games. I do think that they set the mood. Like the "erie" music in Mirage Village. A town frozen for one-thousand years. Pretty Creepy, eh?

Grade Rating: C

Why: I hear people humming the chatchy beats, or tapping thier foot while they play. The songs are so simple and repetative (in a nice way.) Overall, thank you Nobuo for the great job.

Final Fantasy VII: Soundtrack Created by: Nobuo Uematsu

Style: Traditional/Pop

Rating: 8

Why: Wow, this sure is a major jump from Final Fantasy VI. The music in this game is very expressive. When your in the pressance of Sephiroth, there is always a scary, goosebump-causing, song playing. When Aeris is tragically killed :'(, you can feel everyone's sorrow through Aeris' Theme. I also am very fond of the character themes'. I feel as though they fit each character as best it can through song. Such as the beast-changing Vincent, "The Nightmare Begins", the song is called. The name of the song explains it best. The only "real" problem I have with the soundtrack is that the instrumintation sounds way to "computerie". What I mean by that is, when you get an instrument like a flute for example, it sounds like a computer MIDI. Some people like that, it creates a "video game state of mind", they say. But, personally I couldn't wait until Squaresoft figured out how to make the music sound more "live", or as though you are there with them performing it. If you feel up to it check out the MIDI's, listen to the songs that got a 8 rating.

Grade Rating: B+

Why: In my Junior School band room, I would always play Aeris' Theme on the piano. One day a boy came up to me and asked, "Why did you stop"? So, I kept going. He had recognized the song because he said it was his, "umltimate favorite Final Fantasy song". I'm sure everyone doesnt feel this way, but I always get positive feedback on these expressive songs. Especially when I play them on my Keyboard, or Piano :-D.

Final Fantasy VIII: Soundtrack Created by: Nobuo Uematsu

Style: Traditional/Classic/Jazz

Rating: 8.5

Why: This sound track relaxes me! With songs like Breezy (played in Balamb, and Whinhill, I could fall asleep (it's a good thing). She's in Control (played in Deiling City), has a nice Jazz feel to it. It really shows off the French-inspired town. There still is the taditional battle music, which I am not a fan of, it gets old quick. If I were to make a Final Fantasy Soundtrack, I would make like 10+ battle songs, so your not always running into the same tune. It can drive you crazy, especially when you are trying to level up your characters. But, that's just me. Final Fantasy VIII also has character theme's, but they aren't for every character. "The Oath", is Squall's Theme, I guess you could say that "Eyes on Me", is Rinoa's Theme. You could also say that it is Squall and Rinoa's Theme. Eyes on Me is sung by Rinoa's mother, Julia. (Julia is also a very nice piano song, look around for the sheet music, it shouldn't be that hard to find). There is also a song call Liberi Fatali (Latin), this is truly a masterpiece. It is orchestrated and it is perfect for the intense moments in the game. It is also the song that is played in the beginning, with the opening FMV. Go to the lyrics section, and see the lyrics in Latin, and in English. Square is really getting the hang of this!!

Grade Rating: A+

Why: As I was restarting this game I was playing in my brother's room. He couldn't stop raving about how good the music was, and that this Final Fantasy had the best soundtrack. Also, when my friends and I are in my room I often play Balamb Garden (reborn), they love it. I have yet to hear anything bad about this soundtrack. Another excellent job Nobuo :-P!!
