Just then Hermione was saved
from answering by Madame Promfrey. "You are free to do as you please Miss
Granger." She shooed them out of the office and Draco grabbed the books.
They went to the library and finished their studies, with much laughter. It
seemed that Draco had forgotten about the letters, until later that night when
he knocked on her door.
"Come in Draco," Hermione said. Draco waltzed in.
"I forgot to give you these back," Draco said handing her the two
letters.
"Oh, thanks," Hermione said.
"Look Hermione, I know that you liked him a lot for about four years or so,
and if you like him more then me, go ahead and say yes. Just realize that their
will always be someone to lean on if you ever get divorced." Draco said. He
sounded like he wanted reassurance that she was going to say no to Viktor, but
he never got it. Hermione just thanked him and he left.
After Draco left Hermione wrote a very big letter to Viktor. She sealed it with
a special stamp and then went to sleep. First thing in the morning, on the next
day (Sunday) Hermione sent her letter to Viktor with one of the school owls.
Meanwhile, everyone was getting ready for the NEWTS. They were less then three
weeks away! Who could have thought it was already December? Draco, Hermione,
Harry, Ron, Aylen, Delancie, Amy, Axia, and Ava studied hard. When it was less
then the testing was less then a week away, Hermione got back an answer from
Vicky.
~Hermione
I love you too. I'd love for you to come down and meet the parents. When the
NEWTS is over, please send me word by owl and I will get the floo powder network
to let you go cross-continent. I'm so glad that we have remained lovers
throughout this entire time. When you come to meet my parents I shall give you
the engagement ring, and you can spend a week or so here. Thank you for
responding to my letter.
I love you,
Vicky
PS, I took an english course just for you and I can speak it fluently.
Hermione smiled.
Hey guys, all I'm saying is, sometimes it isn't what it seems.
The next week was the NEWTS.
Draco didn't press the subject of the letters. Hermione told Harry and Ron about
them, and the one she had sent in reply. They both told her to take it easy when
visiting the Krums. Hermione agreed and assured them she would be fine. She also
wrote to her grandmother saying that she would be in Bulgaria for a week, and
told Dumbledore that she needed to go there right after the NEWTS for a matter
of great importance. Hermione being a good student, Dumbledore allowed this.
The day of the NEWTS, Hermione ended a 20 hour sleep. She had wanted to make
sure she followed all the tips for good test-taking skills. She had gotten a
good nights sleep, had studied, hard, and planned to eat a big breakfast. Surely
enough when Harry and Ron entered the Great Hall and saw Hermione chowing down
on everything within her reach, they thought she had flipped.
"Hermione, you okay?" Ron asked approaching the head table.
"She's eating a big breakfast because it's a good test-taking tip."
Draco said. Hermione nodded in the middle of taking a huge bite from a muffin.
"Oh," Ron said. "I'm down with that!" He went back to his
own table and started eating all the things he could reach.
Their first exam was charms. This subject was Hermione's second best, so she
wasn't to worried about it. When she got there she saw seven wizards and
witches, all unfamiliar, sitting at seven different tables. On the opposite side
of the table from where the witch or wizard was, was a chair for the pupil to
sit in. In-between each table was a big wall so that no one could cheat or hear
what was going on next to them. Since Hermione's last name was Granger, she got
to go up in the first batch of seven kids. She was the very seventh one and went
over and sat across from a very young witch.
The witch had brown hair and glasses, with her hair pulled tightly in a bun. She
had a sprinkle of freckles across her nose. "Hello Miss Granger." The
witch said looking at a paper with Hermione's information on it. "I see
you're the best witch in the class. Let's see what you can do." And she
made Hermione do all sorts of hard charms. When Hermione had been through a
vigorous magical work out of thirty minutes, the witch shook Hermione's hand and
told her to leave. Right before Hermione got up from her chair the witch winked
at her. Hermione had a smile on her face after that wink.
Next came Magical Creatures exams. She went down to Hagrid's cabin with Draco
and the same sight greeted her as before, with seven different witches and
wizards. Since it was outside, the people not taking the exams would be inside
Hagrid's cabin, because it was cold. This time Hermione was not part of the
first seven. She warmed up in Hagrid's cabin with about ten other kids,
including Draco. They talked about their first exam. Draco said that the
transfiguration exam was hard. Hermione shivered, that was her best subject, but
she still could do bad in it. Hermione told him that charms was easy. "Miss
Granger, your turn." A wizard said startling Hermione.
The rest of the exams were not
very easy, but not hard either. The hardest by far was the transfiguration quiz
that Draco had been talking about. As soon as dinner was over that night,
Hermione said good-bye to Draco.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I'm going on vacation for a week." She said truthfully.
"Oh, well, I'll miss you sweetie." He said. He kissed her good-bye.
Then Hermione went to Dumbledore's office where he was waiting for her.
"Miss Granger, I believe you said the Krum's house? In Bulgaria?"
Dumbledore asked.
"Yes professor." Hermione said.
"May I ask why?" Dumbledore questioned.
"Yes, I have been offered a marrige proposal from Viktor Krum, the
quidditch player." Hermione said turning red.
"Ah, that is a matter of importance. Off you go." He threw the powder
into the flames and she stepped in.
"Viktor Krum's house, Bulgaria!" Hermione shouted. The flames licked
her as they sent her swirling right into the Krums' house.
"HERMIONE!" All Hermione saw was a big black bushy head of hair in
front of her face, hugging her. Arms had wrapped themselves tightly around her.
The person took a step back and Hermione saw the face of her ex-boyfriend,
Viktor Krum, or better known as Vicky.
"Hey Viktor!" Hermione said less enthusastically then Viktor, but
still happy to see him. She really was. In her letter she had sent him, she told
him she didn't know how much feelings she had for him, so she had asked to visit
him and see. She had neither accepted nor rejected his proposal. I know what
you, the reader, is thinking. How can she do this to Draco? Well the answer is
that Viktor had been there for her, and loved her for a long time, while Draco
had been mean from the start and had only loved Hermione for a year.
"You look so hot," Viktor whispered in Hermione's ear. "These are
my parents." He said aloud. His arm was still around her small, fragile
body while he introduced Hermione to his parents. His father was named Robert,
or Bob. He was American. He had Viktor's big nose, but was very handsome all the
same. Viktor's mother on the other hand was Bulgarian at heart. Malkshovk was
her name. She had black hair and even looked Bulgarian. Hermione shook both of
their hands, while still wrapped around Viktor's arm. Then she got her luggage
from out of the bedroom (Dumbledore had sent it beforehand). Hermione started to
unpack when Viktor came in.
Just before Viktor had come in, Hermione had decided to change for bed, but she
couldn't find her pajamas in the suitcase. So she had started to burrow into her
suitcase only wearing a bra and underwear. It was now that Viktor decided to
come in. "Viktor!" She shouted at him when he busted into her room.
"Hermione..." He said softly staring at her. He had lost all trace of
his Bulgarian accent and sounded completely English. "I, I'm sorry."
He said. He hid his eyes while she changed into her pajamas. Then he sat on her
bed next to her. "I'm sorry, but you are so hot." He said. "And
you've got the best personality I've ever seen in a girl, heck, anyone! You've
developed into such a fine lady, any boy would be lucky to have you." He
said. "I'm so glad you're mine." Hermione thought of Draco almost as
soon as he said that. She still didn't know whether she had feelings for Viktor
or not.
"I'm not sure yet if I'm
yours, remember?" Hermione said.
"Yes," Viktor said sadly. "But, the point of you coming here was
to see if you love me, and I'm going to do the best I can to make sure that you
do. I'm going to act like you accpeted my proposal and that we are getting
married." Viktor said. "That reminds me. I want to do this the right
way, not over a letter." He pulled out a small black box from the inside of
his robe pocket. He bent down on one knee.
He opened the small box and inside was a small, diamond ring. It was real
diamond, and had gold in it too. "Viktor!" She gasped softly.
"You didn't have to," She said. He put the ring on her hand while
getting up.
"Yes I did have to Hermione. I love you. Will you be my wife?"
Hermione accepted the ring and placed it on her finger.
"I don't know..." She said weakly.
"That's fine. You will by the end of the trip, one way or the other."
Viktor said happily. "Just remember that I love you Hermione, real love,
right here." He took her hand, the one with the ring on it, and placed it
on his heart.
Immediately feelings gushed over her for Viktor. He was so sweet and smart, and
he was a professional quidditch player. He held her, and they danced, something
that she was so used to doing with Draco. Viktor was a little bit taller then
Draco and therefore she could easily rest her head in his chest. He was just
happy with her in his arms.
Hermione knew that she did, in fact, have feelings for Viktor. The question was,
were they greater then her ones for Draco? She didn't know. When they stopped
dancing Hermione laid down on the bed, facing up. She was tired and wanted to go
to sleep.
"Night honey," Viktor said. He leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
This was the first time they had ever kissed before. Viktor had always been the
one to take it slow before, but now it seemed he had become more a man, at age
21. He was about to withdraw from the short peck on her lips, when she grabbed
his hand and pulled him towards her. He laid down on the bed next to her and
they started to really kiss. Viktor's kisses made Hermione feel like she was in
heaven. His lips were so soft and made perfectly for hers. Hermione pressed her
hands against his back, and he drew her closer to him. After a minute or two,
Hermione gently pushed him back.
"Good night." She said sweetly.
"I love you," Viktor said, and closed the door behind him.
Hermione woke up the next
morning, forgetting that she wasn't in Hogwarts. When she finally opened her
eyes and looked around she had to keep herself from screaming. When she finally
remembered that she was at Viktor's house, a feeling of great happiness swept
over her. She quickly used the shower, complete with a gold showerhead and
knobs. She realized how big Viktor's house really was. He had been a
professional quidditch player since the age of eighteen, three years ago, and he
lived in a mansion now with gold everywhere. When she had dried off, blown her
hair, brushed her hair, and put on her make-up, she decided to put a charm on
them so that they softened her face and she really did look like an angel when
she was finished. She decided to put on the outfit she had used for that one
night of patrol with Draco, the blue top and tight white pants. She went
downstairs for breakfast happy as could be. Viktor and his dad were sitting at
the table.
"Hello Bob and Viktor." Hermione said interrupting their conversation.
Viktor turned to look at her. He went over to her and picked her up in his arms,
just like a little baby. "Hermione," He said. He seemed unable to put
together a sentence. She just smiled at him.
"Viktor," She said and looked into his eyes. Viktor set her down and
she took a place at the table next to Viktor. "Hello Robert," She
said.
"Please, call me Bob." Bob said.
"Alright, good morning Bob!" Hermione said. She seemed to have never
been happier, and she didn't have the faintest idea why.
"Good morning Hermione." Bob said. "Would you like some toast or
eggs? Viktor cooked them."
"Yes please." She got up to go get the eggs but Viktor stopped her.
"As my fiance, I want you to sit down and rest. I'll get the food for
you." He said.
"Okay," She said giddily. She sat down and Viktor served her, then he
sat down next to her with the remaining part of his breakfast.
"Would you like some coffee?" Bob asked offering Hermione the pot.
"Sure!" Hermione said. She quickly poured some in a cup, added a
little bit of sugar, and drank it. "Mmmmm" She said happily.
"Hermione you look like an angel this morning." Viktor said.
"Thank you Viktor." She just now noticed what he was wearing. It was a
blue top with jeans, very stylish and sexy at the same time. "You look
great too." Hermione said. He had even slicked his hair back for a very
gentleman-like effect.
"Thank you." He said. The three chatted until Bob excused himself to
go to work.
"Where is your
mother?" Hermione asked remebering.
"She left for work quite a while ago. It's just us in the house. I don't
have to go anywhere until four o' clock in the afternoon, to a quidditch
practice. Would you like to come watch?" Hermione agreed, then noticed that
they had both gotten up and he was very slowly coming towards her. She started
to back up. "Just us." Viktor repeated. Hermione's back hit something
hard and she turned to realize it was a wall. Viktor grabbed her hands and
kissed her. She had no chance of playing hard-to-get. He had done it so swiftly
and noiselessly she hadn't realized what had been going on until it was to late
to stop it.
Once they were in the kiss, Hermione couldn't help but want it. Who wouldn't?
Viktor had slid his arms arould her and was playing with her hair and she had
her hands placed around the back of his neck. When Viktor finally decided it was
enough, he backed up. Immediately Hermione ran away, hoping for a game of cat
and mouse. She got it. Viktor ran after her.
"Come back here!" He cried laughing. Hermione ran around the house,
but she hadn't been in it before, and it was to big to know what led to a dead
end. When she opened a door to a walk-in closet and ran in, she didn't realize
it wasn't going to lead to another room. Viktor went in the closet and turned
off the lights so that Hermione couldn't see. She heard jackets ruffling as
Viktor passed by them, but at the same time jackets were ruffling on the other
side of the closet. Hermione just stood there, stupidly waiting for him to make
his move. She was helpless and couldn't remember which way the door was. Then
she felt breath on her face. She tried to move to the left but Viktor had
grabbed her already. He bent down and kissed her again, and she didn't resist.
Once again she was to wrapped up in the kiss to worry about anything else.
"Draco, this is so
nice," She said when he was kissing her arm.
"Draco?" Viktor stopped and turned to look at her. He switched on the
lights so he could see her face; it had turned a bright red.
"I mean Viktor, sorry," Hermione said, but Viktor wanted to press the
matter.
"Who is Draco?" He asked.
Hermione didn't want to ruin her relationship with Viktor and had to lie.
"He's my ex-boyfriend, I'm so sorry! I hate him now, don't worry."
Hermione said.
"Oh okay." Viktor said reassured. He started to kiss her again and she
enjoyed it, loved it.
"I love you Hermione," Viktor said. Hermione took a deep breath.
"I love you too." Hermione said. Viktor looked at her.
"You-you do?" He asked stunned and surprised.
"Yes." Hermione said.
Viktor questioned, "Does this mean that you've accepted my marriage
proposal?"
Hermione hesitated. Could she
accept? What about Draco? But, what about Viktor? "Yes, I have accepted
your marriage proposal. Hermione said.
Viktor put his hands on her cheeks. "Hermione, I have dreamed of this day
for so long." He massaged her finger, the one with the ring on it. Hermione
smiled up at him. She couldn't deny her feelings for Draco, but Draco wasn't the
one stroking her finger right now, right now it was Viktor. Hermione clasped
Viktor's hands. He kissed her. He carried her out of the room wedding-style, and
he plopped her down on a bed in one of the many guest rooms. Hermione laughed.
Suddenly Viktor's watch started to beep. "Ah! Time has flown by. It's
already 3:00. I have to get on my quidditch gear and then I have to head down to
the quidditch pitch. Do you want to come?" Viktor asked.
"Of course." Hermione said. She ran and got her jacket, gloves, hat,
scarf, and pulled on her snow boots. She ran to the front door. Viktor hugged
her close to him as they made their way out to the car. He got into the right
side of the car to drive. Hermione knew what a car was from her parents.
Hermione smacked her forehead! She hadn't told Viktor that her dad wouldn't be
able to walk her down the aisle. Hermione got in the left side of the car Viktor
turned on the engine.
"I only have to drive this thing because my parents don't want me to
apparate, and their isn't a fireplace where I'm going. Do you know how to drive
yet?" Viktor asked.
"No, I don't get my liscense until my next birthday, but I have my
permit." Hermione said cheerfully. Afterall, she had just gotten herself a
fiance.
The drive was about twenty minutes. Hermione didn't mention the fire and her
parents to Viktor, it didn't feel like the right time to break down and cry. The
quidditch practice was fun; Hermione saw how fit Viktor was. The team had to run
five miles and then they were finally granted the priviledge of getting on their
brooms. Then the team worked on getting their passes perfect, they're bludgering
splendid, their goal keeper unblockable, and most importantly, their seeker
sharp as a pencil point. Hermione clapped for Viktor when he caught the snitch.
She was the only one in the stands. When the team finally called the quits and
hit the showers, Hermione waited patiently for Viktor to come out, and it wasn't
long.
When it was finally over
Hermione and Viktor went back to the empty mansion. Viktor wanted to cook dinner
for them, so Hermione went up to her room and wrote a letter to Professor
Dumbledore. When Viktor called up to her that dinner was on the table, she
skipped down to him. Set up in the dining room was a small table with two
candles and two chairs. The candles were lit and napkins were placed neatly with
utensils on top of them. Viktor pulled out a chair for her. "Sit
down." He said. She sat down on the chair and he pushed her in. She
unfolded her napkin placed it on her lap.
"Viktor, this is so romantic." Hermione cried. Viktor lifted a lid off
a pot that was filled with pasta. He pulled off another lid and that bowl was
filled with brocolli.
"I thought a nice English dinner would be nice." Viktor said. "I
thought it might remind you of home." Viktor said. Hermione knew that the
dinner was mostly Italian and American, but she didn't mind; it was the thought
that counts. They started to eat.
"Viktor, I just wrote Professor Dumbledore a letter. I told him I'd be back
on Monday. Right now it's Wednesday. Is that okay?" Hermione asked.
"Yes of course, stay as long or as little as you want. We have some wedding
planning to do though. We should set a date." Viktor said. Hermione
suddenly got very happy. She loved to coordinate things, and weddings were
always so happy.
"I'd love to plan our wedding. Right now it's January, so, do you want to
have the wedding in May?" Hermione asked.
"That long?" Viktor asked playfully. "Can't we just get married
tomorrow?" He asked.
"No silly, we have to send invitations!" Hermione said squeezing his
nose.
"I just remembered, we can't have it until at least November 29th, I have
to be eighteen before I get married." Hermione said.
"Oh yeah." Viktor said sadly. "Oh well, we'll just see each other
as much as we can until then. We'll have it on the 29th of November. It will be
one of my many birthday presents to you." Hermione smiled; she liked
birthdays, especially hers!
Before the young couple knew it, it was Monday. Hermione packed her things and
then went downstairs. Waiting for her at the bottom were Viktor and his parents.
Hermione set her bag down and hugged Viktor's mother. "Thank you for having
me," She said.
"Oh Hermione," His mother said with her accent, "Anyone is
welcome who my son loves."
Hermione shook Bob's hand and then gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Thank
you, your house is wonderful." Hermione said again.
"You're welcome Hermione." Bob said.
Then Hermione turned to face Viktor. He had a tear running down the side of his
face. She wiped it with her hand, and Viktor's parents left. "Hermione,
words can't describe how sad I feel right now." Viktor said. Another tear
ran down his cheek.
"It's okay, I'll be back soon. When do you want to see each other
again?" Hermione asked.
"I want to see you every day." Viktor said.
"Come on now, when?" Hermione asked lovingly.
"I guess, the first day of summer you can come over again." Viktor
said. "I'll send you a letter soon."
"Okay, I really have to go now, or I'll miss dinner." Hermione said.
"Okay," Viktor said. "Bye bye Hermione." He kissed her. She
tried to leave his embrace but he pulled her hand towards him again.
"Come on Viktor." Hermione said playfully. She let him kiss her again,
and then she walked over to the fire. "See you in the summer."
Hermione said. She was sad to see her love go, but she had to leave. He waved
good-bye. Hermione threw floo powder in the fire and went in. "Hogwarts,
Head Common Room." Hermione said. She was automatically transported to the
head common room.
"Hermione! Thank god your
here!" Draco said flinging his arms around her. Hermione hugged him back.
"Hi Draco," Hermione said awkwardly.
"Baby, I was so heart broken without you. Where did you go on your
vacation?" Draco asked kissing her neck in-between words.
Hermione backed away. "Bulgaria." She said.
"Oh, sounds fun. Why did you back up? Can't I kiss my girlfriend?" He
grasped her hands. Hermione's engagement ring stuck into his finger. He turned
it over to see the diamond. "What's - what's this?" He asked.
"Draco, please understand." She tried to hug him but he backed away.
"No, get away. You went to see Viktor in Bulgaria, didn't you. You accepted
his proposal. Hermione, how could you?" Draco ran out of the hole and
Hermione didn't run after him. She plopped down on a couch and cried.
"Why do I have to have two boys? One is just good enough thanks God!"
Hermione cried to the ceiling. As if to answer her plea a bolt of lightning lit
up the room. Hermione saw the fire go out and then she cried some more. She
finally gathered her emotions and went to the bathroom to splash cold water on
her face. Then she went down to dinner. She sat at the Gryffindor table and
noticed that Draco wasn't anywhere to be found. Hermione told Ron and Harry
about Viktor and the proposal. They both congratulated her.
"We have to throw a bachleor party!" Ron cried.
Hermione snickered. "That's my Ron!" She said and hugged him.
"You're really getting
married on the day after your birthday?" Harry asked, still stunned by this
information.
"Yup." Hermione said sadly. Seeing Draco run out crying made her
feelings more complicated.
"That's what we should start thinking about," Delancie said grasping
Ron's arm. Ron turned to face her. "Just kidding, jeez, calm down."
She said seeing Ron's expression.
Ron let out a deep sigh. Hermione rushed over to see Ava and told her all about
the good news. "Wow Hermione, I can't believe you're getting married!"
She cried when she had heard.
"I know! You've got to help me plan it!" Hermione cried gleefully.
Pretty soon it was time to retire to their bedrooms to get ready for the day of
school ahead of them tomorrow. Hermione went to the head common room hoping to
speak to Draco, but he had locked himself up in his room with the music blasting
so he couldn't hear her shouting through the door. She knocked and screamed for
hours, but at two in the morning she gave up and went to sleep.
The next day Hermione was paired with Draco for herbology. Hermione took off her
ring so that it wouldn't get dirty. She tried to speak to Draco, but it was no
use. That night Hermione skipped dinner. She hid in Draco's closet. When Draco
came up and locked his door, Hermione watched as he wrote in a book. She was
close enough to hear him talking about her, and asking God why she had gone to
another man's arms. When Draco fell asleep Hermione took the book into her room
and started to read. It was a diary.
~August 20th~
Diary,
Today my father beat me again. I have got bruises all over my body. I ratted on
my father later today, and then Dumbledore came to get me. I will be living at
Hogwarts now.
~August 21st~
Diary,
Today Hermione Granger arrived at Hogwarts too. I love that girl.
~September 7th~
Diary,
Today was Hermione's parent's funeral. I followed her and afterwards I found
myself in a darkened room with her. I told her I was falling in love with her. I
really am. She is my true love.
~September 20th~
Diary,
Today I got my first kiss with Hermione. Her lips tasted like sweet strawberries
and were soft. I have been waiting for this day since my first year at Hogwarts.
Many Hermione-filled pages later,
~January 23rd~
Diary,
Today Hermione left for vacation. I hope she will be back soon.
~January 30th~
Diary,
Today my heart has broken. Hermione came home from Viktor's house, and she has
accpeted his marriage proposal. She has left me. I will surely kill myself in a
week.
~January 31st~
Diary,
I'm killing myself tomorrow
Hermione gasped. She glanced
at her calendar. It was January 31st, Draco had just wrote this. Then Hermione
realized it was 6 AM in the morning, so now it was Febuary 1st. Hermione ran to
Draco's room. She went in to see Draco crying on his bed. He had a knife on his
bedstand, and his hand was slowly moving towards it.
"DRACO, NO!" Hermione shouted. She dived on top of his hand, and him,
and it knocked the knife off of the nightstand.
"Hermione!" Draco cried.
Hermione knew in that moment that the ring on her finger was useless. She still
loved Draco; she always would. The fact that he would kill himself because she
was in love with another man really screamed in her ear, and she really didn't
love Viktor. It had just been the actual marriage thing that had gotten her
excited and so she just became happy and told Viktor it was he that she loved.
She grabbed the knife off the floor and cut her finger, the one that had the
engagement ring on it. It was a very small cut though. "Hermione, what are
you doing?" Draco asked. "Don't hurt yourself." Draco said and he
took her hand.
"Look Draco, I've decided I love you, and not Viktor. This finger shouldn't
be in use for at least another year. I'm telling him my descion tonight. I'll
write him a letter. I'm sorry that I did this to you, I love you." Hermione
said, breaking out into tears.
"Hermione," Draco said, also in tears, "are you sure this is what
you really want?" Hermione looked deep into Draco's eyes. She saw her
future with him. It looked good, and she wanted to have that future.
"Yes, I'm sure Draco." Hermione said. Draco flung his arms around her.
"I love you Hermione. I always will. I'm going to get married to you and we
will live happily ever after."
"I've had enough of weddings!" Hermione cried sarcastically. She
kissed him.
Suddenly people came out of
closets, big drawers, even under Draco's bed. The people were Ava, Harry, Ron,
Delancie, Aylen, Amy, and Axia. They were all wearing party hats and streamers
were coming from the ceiling. Hermione and Draco stared and then laughed.
"What's all this?" Hermione asked laughing.
"We knew you two would get back together," Harry said throwing confeti
in Hermione's face. "We decided to throw a party when the time finally
came."
"My friends know me to well!" Hermione cried.
"Know you, we are you!" Ava shouted. Everyone laughed. Amy and Axia
patted Draco congratulations, and all of Hermione's friends cermoniously took
off Hermione's ring. Ava got a bandaid out from her purse and put on Hermione's
finger. Hermione and Draco's friends flooded through the common room and they
all had a party. Hermione and Draco bathed in all of their friends warmth and,
well, friendliness. That night the two spent the evening dining with a small
table set for two on the balcony they shared. Draco had put a heating charm on
the balcony so they wouldn't get cold. They celebrated with sparkling apple
cider, and they had a very fancy dinner. The two loved being together again.
When all the joy was gone from the night, Hermione sat at her desk and wrote the
letter that she needed to write. She got a quill out and her trashbin was full
by the time she had finally finished her letter.
Dear Viktor,
I'm sorry, but I love another. I have to send you back your ring, because I
can't marry you. I will remember you and your kindness always, but I can't go on
living a lie. I love another, like I have said before. I like you as a friend
Viktor, and we can continue our friendship if you wish. If you wish to never see
me again, I understand that as well.
With warmest regards,
Hermione Granger
Hermione and Viktor never saw
or talked to each other ever again. Hermione wasn't surprised, after all she had
broken his heart.
It was Febuary 12th. Hermione still hadn't gotten Draco anything for Valentine's
Day. She fretted around Hogsmeade looking in all of the windows trying to find
something suitable. Suddenly she saw a muggle shop, Hallmark. She went inside
and found the perfect card, then she put a charm on it so that the words and
pictures moved. Then she browsed the store until she found the perfect thing.
On Valentine's Day, Hermione walked into the Great Hall and immediately thought
that Professor Lockheart had come to work at Hogwarts again. Hearts were
everywhere and everything, I mean everything, was pink. Hermione laughed as a
giant heart ran up to her and hugged her. She went up to the head table.
"Good morning love." Draco said. She hugged him.
"Morning. Happy Valentine's Day." Hermione said.
"You too." Hermione and Draco ate their breakfast. Then Professor
Dumbledore got up to make the morning announcements.
"Students. I have thought about a matter for a long time, and I have
finally made a descision on it. I have decided that their will be no school
today, even though it's Friday. I decided on no school mainly because of the two
head's." Dumbledore said smiling down at Draco and Hermione. Hermione
turned a bright red. Her few freckles turned purple. She quickly pretended to
have dropped her fork and bent under the table so no one could see how red she
was. Hermione and Draco spent the whole day together, but Draco didn't give
Hermione a present so Hermione waited too. They passed Harry and Aylen, and Ron
and Delancie, and both couples were holding hands, so Draco and Hermione did the
same. Then Draco and Hermione entered the empty library. He brought her over to
a table and kissed her.
"I got you something." He said. He pulled out a tiny box. Hermione was
afraid of it, because it obviousily held some sort of jewelry. "It's not an
engagement ring, I promise." Draco said laughing at her expression.
Hermione breathed a sigh of relief. She opened the box and inside was a silver
locket in the shape of a heart.
"Oh, Draco it's so sweet!" Hermione cried. She tossed her arms around
him.
"Look inside." Draco said. Hermione opened the locket and inside was a
picture of Hermione and Draco kissing.
"How'd you get this picture?" Hermione asked. "Neither of us owns
a camera."
"Apparently Aylen and Harry were spying on us one time with a camera, and
they took it. Then Harry gave it to me and said that I might want it."
Draco said.
"Oh, how sweet!" Hermione said. She kissed Draco's cheek. "I have
something for you." She said getting out a much larger box then Draco's. It
was wrapped in pink heart wrapping paper. Draco opened it and found Hermione's
present for him. It was a blue bear and a pink bear that were magnetic, so that
they stuck together, and you couldn't get them to come apart. She had also
labeled the bears. The pink one said 'Hermione' and the blue one said 'Draco'.
Hermione laughed at his look of expression softened. The funniest part was that
the magnetic part of the bears were their lips. He laughed.
"Hermione, it's us!" He cried. "Thank you. I will always think of
you when I see these." Draco hugged the bears tight.
Time passed quickly and soon
the students in the seventh year found it was the middle of May. Their
graduation was to be held June 1st, the last day of school. The teachers were
always holding meetings trying to find out who the valedictorian should be, even
though everyone knew it was going to be Hermione. She had never once gotten
anything below a 100 on anything. Then, in the beggining of the last week in
May, in Transfiguration class, Professor McGonagall told everyone the teachers
had made a decision. "The valedictorian for this year will be... drum roll
may come to a halt Mr. Weasley, Miss Granger!" Everyone could tell that
McGonagall had been pushing for Hermione to be valedictorian. She had always had
a special liking for Hermione. Hermione blushed as everyone clapped. When class
ended Hermione rushed to Draco to tell him. That night she wrote out the first
draft of her speech that she would present at graduation. The next night she
wrote the second, third, and fourth drafts of her speech. On the next night,
Wednesday, she completed it. It was May 30th, she had to present her speech in
two days. She read it to Draco, Harry, and Ron, and they all gave her
constructive critism so she wrote a fifth draft, her final draft.
On the thirty-first of May Hermione showed her speech to Professor McGonagall
and Professor Dumbledore. They both said it was fine. When she left the office
both had tears in their eyes.
Then it was the big day. Hermione helped set up the seats and stage on the
quidditch pitch. All the seventh years were in their final class (also the only
one for this day) Potions. When all was finished and the students started to
arrive, their was over 1,000 seats, a stage with streamers, a podium, and three
additional seats on the stage to the left. Hermione took in a deep breath and
hoped that all the seats wouldn't be filled, because she was already nervous.
Their was only about fifty seventh year students, but supposedly the whole
entire ministry was coming because Dumbledore had told him that this class was
the one where he would get most of his faithful employees. Also all the
relatives of the fifty students were coming, including Hermione's grandmother.
When all of the seats were full, Hermione, Professor Dumbledore, and Professor
McGonagall took their place on stage, sitting in the three seats. Dumbledore
went up to the podium and put a loud charm on his voice. "Welcome all, to
the 2010 graduation." Everyone clapped and Hermione looked out at all of
the formal black dress robes and the hats with the little, yellow tassels on
them.
The crowd quieted down and
Dumbledore continued with a typical graduation speech; how proud he was of his
students, blah blah blah, etc. Then he introduced Minerva McGonagall and she
said her bit. McGonagall then introduced Hermione to the crowd. "This is
Miss Hermione Granger, our valedictorian for this year. She has excellent
grades, and I'm sure she has prepared an excellent speech!" The people in
the audience clapped and Hermione stood up very gracefully. She walked to the
podium, making sure that she wouldn't trip on her long robe. When she finally
got to the podium she took a sip of water from a glass marked 'Hermione' and
then shuffled around all the papers on the podium until she found her speech.
"Fellow graduates, in the great words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, I have
a dream!" Hermione said. Most of the people in the crowd didn't know who
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was, but everyone clapped anyway. "My dream is
that we will all become sucessful people in this world. I believe that we will
all become people with big salaries," the people laughed as Hermione
clasped her hands together, "and that we will all get the jobs we want.
People of the ministry, look at your future employees. These are the ones that
will stick by you no matter what." Hermione trailed on with her speech.
When she finally finished, the class switched their tassels over to the right
side, and then threw them up in the air. Everyone caught somebody else's. When
Hermione got off the stage Draco ran straight into her.
"Hermione, that was brilliant. Great job! I love you so much." He held
her tight with one hand while he brushed her hair out of her face with the
other. She kissed him. "I have a feeling we'll be together for a long, long
time."
