It was eleven o' clock at the Kings Cross Train Station in London. Alanna ran frantically trying to find the entrance to platform 9 and 3/4's. Her green eyes were full of worry and her black kitten, midnight was telling her to hurry up. Her kitten was not an ordinary kitten. Nor was she an ordinary girl. She was the descendent of one of the world's greatest sorceresses and worriers, Alanna of Trebond an Olau.
Draco Malfoy, a boy in her house and year came and sat with her on the train. She had never actually spoken to him, which made the situation awkward. She nervously fiddled with the stone around her neck. It was a ruby with red fire inside.

"Where did you get that stone?"

"It is an old family heirloom that was given to me by my mother. She told me that it belonged to my descendent from the times of the dark ages."

"And who was your descendent?"

"Alanna of Trebond and Olau also known as the Lioness Rampant.. I share her blood, her skills in sorcery, her compassion, and determination."

"I've read about her in books. She did amazing things in her time. I knew you looked familiar. There is a painting of her in the library at school."

After a few more hours on the train, they arrived.  Little did she know, but this wasn't the last she'd speak to Draco Malfoy She also began to notice that a few of the boys she attended classes with her seemed to take an interest in her. Including Draco who seemed to have the most interest. He began to partner up with her more in potions and seemed to flirt with her a lot. One day, she was talking to Ginny Weasly who had overheard him talking about how much he liked her and his plans to ask her to the Yule Ball.

"Do you really think that he'll ask me?"

"Sure, all he does is flirt with you and spend a lot of time with you. He might even love you."

" Love me!? nonsense."

"Whatever you say, Alanna. That's what I heard."

Later that day, she was sitting by the fire in the common room with her keyboard playing and singing her new song called "Walk Away".  When she finished, she heard someone clapping. It was Draco. He sat down beside her and said,

"That was amazing, I had no idea you could sing like that. Anyway, I want to ask you something. Do you have a date to the Yule Ball?"

"No."

"Then, will you be my date?"

"Yes I will."

"Wonderful!"

As he left he kissed her on the cheek. He turned around and said,

"I'll meet you at the bottom of the staircase by the ballroom."

She was ecstatic no one had ever asked her to a dance. She always had to ask them. As soon as classes were over the next day, she found Ginny, Luna, and Hermione and told them everything. They made plans to visit Dorolla's Dress Shoppe in Hogsmeade and shop for dresses that coming Saturday. Four hours and one hundred dresses later, the girls left with their picks. Ginny bought a pale yellow dress with a pale blue silk bow on the back and sheer sleeves. Luna bought a dark green dress with matching lace at the bottom and in the middle of it. Hermione bought a white dress with silver snowflakes embroidered into it. Alanna got a deep red sleeveless dress covered by black flowered lace and a black corset over the top. She loved it and could not wait to put it on. The week before the ball was very exciting. She and her friends sat in the great hall and picked out hair styles from magazines that Alanna had gotten from the airport in London.

"It's perfect" Said Hermione, pointing to the picture of a bun with white flowers in it.

"It would go great with your dress, I'll do it for you." Replied Alanna.

She finally picked out the perfect style. It was long and wavy some of it was pulled back behind the head and had a dark red rose in it.   On the night of the ball, she and her friends all looked at themselves in the mirror and agreed that they looked great. They walked down together and met their dates. Draco looked at her and said,

"you look amazing, shall we?"

Then he held out his arm. She took it and put her head on his shoulder. They walked into the large ballroom. The band began to play and the couples began to dance. With every minute that went by, the two of them seemed to get closer and closer. After a few minutes she felt as though she wasn't dancing, but floating across the floor. She was so happy that she did not realize that they were out on the snow covered balcony. But when she did, she felt the cold. Draco's grip tightened on her and he began to pull her closer. He looked up, laughed and said

"Hey, look mistletoe, you know what that means."

They looked at each other for a split second, when she felt his hand move up to her neck. He pulled her head in and he kissed gently and then fiercely. Then, she heard three voices.

"Move, you're on my hand."

"I will once you take your hair out of my face."

"Move you two I can't see anything. Oh way to go, Alanna!

She began to laugh at her friend's enthusiasm. Draco just glared evilly at them.

"It's getting cold out, why don't we go and warm the rest of your body up." he replied.

She was still shocked that he had kissed her and could only nod her head. He put his arm around her and brought her inside. She sat down at one of the tables, where her friends joined her and congratulated her. Then, Draco returned with hot cider , which she took gratefully and drank.

"Could you three give Alanna and I some privacy for a minute?"

"Sure, we can." Replied Ginny.

As soon as they left, he looked over at her and took her hands in his and looked into her eyes, which were bright green with happiness.

"I like you a lot and I wanted to ask you if you would be my girlfriend."

"After a kiss like that? The only answer I can give is yes."

"Great! Now, why don't we go and dance?"

After an hour, Draco lead her over to one of the staff and guest tables and introduced her to a man with long blonde hair and a snake headed cane.

"Father, I would like you to meet my girlfriend, Alanna."

"Oh, so this is Alanna. Draco has told me so much about you. I dare say that he is quite smitten with you. And what young man wouldn't be?" This remark made both Draco and Alanna blush.

"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy, sir."

"Call me Lucius, dear. It was nice meeting you."

After more dancing and food from the tables, Draco and Alanna left the ballroom and walked back to the common room. They took some of the cider that the ghosts had brought and sat on the couch in front of the fire with the blanket over them. He put his arm around her (I know that this is getting repetitive, but it just seems to fit in with the moment.) He kissed her again and she rested her head on his chest. Her cat, Midnight came out and said,

By all means enjoy your time with him, but don't fall asleep.

"Oh, Midnight don't worry I won't"

"Did your cat just talk?"

"Yes she did. I guess she likes you."

"What?"

"Only people that she chooses can hear her." She said fiddling with the amethyst stone around her neck.

"What does that stone do?"

"Why?"

"Because I've never seen you take it off."

"It alerts me if anyone uses magic for evil close to where I am."

"Oh, ok." he kissed her on the cheek and said, "I love you."

"I love you too." She said remembering what Midnight said, she stayed until he was asleep and began to get up.

"No, don't go" Draco said sleepily. He looks adorable when he's sleeping she thought. She planned to stay with him but not sleep. But her body had other plans and before she knew it, she was asleep as well. It had been a magical night for Alanna and she would not forget it any time soon.
