BUT, IT'S ONLY A QUARTER ! ! !

Several years ago a preacher moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it. Then he thought, " Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount ? Anyway the bus company already gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from God and keep quiet. " When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, " Here, you gave me too much change. "

The driver with a smile, replied, " Aren't you the new preacher in town ? I have been thinking lately about going to worship somewhere. I just wanted to see what you would do
if I gave you too much change. "

When my preacher friend stepped off the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, and held on, and said,
" O' God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter. "

THIS IS :
~ ~ ~ POWERFUL   ~ ~ ~

One day a while back, a man, his heart heavy with grief, was walking in the woods. As he thought about his life this day, he knew many things were not right. He thought about those who had lied about him back when he had a job.
His thoughts turned to those who had stolen his things and cheated him.
He remembered family that had passed on. His mind turned to the illness he had that no one could cure. His very soul was filled with anger, resentment and frustration.

Standing there this day, searching for answers he could not find, knowing all else had failed him, he knelt at the base of an old oak tree to seek the one he knew would always be there. And with tears in his eyes, he prayed :
" Lord - You have done wonderful things for me in this life. You have told me to do many things for you, and I happily obeyed. Today, you have told me to forgive. I am sad, Lord, because I cannot. I don't know how. It is not fair Lord. I didn't deserve these wrongs that were done against me and I shouldn't have to forgive. As perfect as your way is Lord, this one thing I cannot do, for I don't know how to forgive. My anger is so deep Lord, I fear I may not hear you, but I pray that you teach me to do this one thing I cannot do - Teach me To Forgive."

As he knelt there in the quiet shade of that old oak tree, he felt something fall onto his shoulder. He opened his eyes. Out of the corner of one eye, he saw something red on his shirt. He could not turn to see what it was because where the oak tree had been was a large square piece of wood in the ground. He raised his head and saw two feet held to the wood with a large spike through them.

He raised his head more, and tears came to his eyes as he saw Jesus hanging on a cross. He saw spikes in His hands, a gash in His side, a torn and battered body, deep thorns sunk into His head. Finally he saw the suffering and pain on His recious face. As their eyes met, the man's tears turned to sobbing, and Jesus began to speak.

Have you ever told a lie, he asked ? The man answered - yes Lord.

Have you ever been given to much change and kept it ?
The man answered yes Lord. And the man sobbed more and more.

Have you ever taken something from work that wasn't yours,
Jesus asked ? And the man answered yes Lord.

Have you ever sworn, using my Father's name in vain ?
The man, crying now, answered yes Lord.

As Jesus asked many more times, " Have you ever ? " The man's
crying became uncontrollable, for he could only answer
yes Lord.

Then Jesus turned His head from one side to the other, and
the man felt something fall on his other shoulder. He looked and
saw that it was the blood of Jesus. When he looked back up,
his eyes met those of Jesus, and there was a look of love the man
had never seen or known before.

Jesus said, I didn't deserve this either, but I forgive you.
It may be hard to see how you're going to get through something,
but when you look back in life, you realize how
true this statement is.

Please read the first line slowly and let it sink in. This is simple, and important. Read on....This first line is deep.
FACT : If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.
Then you to should pray, saying :
Lord I love You and I need You, come into my heart, today.
For without You I can do nothing.

~ ~ ~ THE LEGEND OF THE FIRST ROBIN ~ ~ ~

One day, long ago, a little bird in Galilee saw a large
crowd gathered around a Man carrying a heavy wooden cross.
On the Man's head was a crown made from a thorn branch.

The thorns were long a sharp. The little bird saw that the
thorns were hurting the Man. It wanted to help Him, so it
flew down and took the longest, sharpest thorn in its tiny beak.
The bird tugged and pulled until the thorn snapped from
the branch. Then a strange thing happened. A drop of blood
fell onto the bird's breast, staining it bright red.
The stain never went away.
And so today the robin proudly wears a
red breast, because it helped a Man named Jesus.

~ TEN & TWELVE ~    OR    ~ SEVENTY - NINE ~

One evening a grandaughter and a grandson was talking to their grandfather about current events. The grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the school shootings, the computer age, and just things in general and the "Good Old " days.

The granddad replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, contact lenses, Frisbees, and the pill.....and having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot ?..... " Race issue " meant arguing about who ran the fastest ?.....War was a card game ?.......and a foot of snow was a dream come true ?

There was no radar, credit cards, laser beams or ballpoint pens. Man had not invented pantyhose, air conditioners, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, clothes dryers, and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and man hadn't yet walked on the moon. Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening ?

When you kids grandmother and I got married first - and then we lived together. Every family had a father and a mother.

Until I was 25, I called every man older than I, " Sir " - and after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, " Sir. "
We were before gay-rights, computer dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy, automobiles with air freshners hanging from the rear view mirror.

The Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense governed our lives. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up for our actions.
Serving your community was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege. We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.
Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started.
Time - sharing meant the family spent time together in the evenings and weekends, not out purchasing condominiums and every evening before bed time Mom had sick call for all of us kids and gave any of us scratched up, a bandaide or those feeling a little under the weather, she brouught out her home remedy " Castor Oil ! "

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings. We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.
And I don't remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.
If you saw anything with " Made in Japan " or " Made in Germany " on it, it was junk.

The term " making out " referred to how you did on your school exam. Pizza Hut, Sonic, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5 & 10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and Pepsi for a nickel , no free re-fills. And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.

You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600 but who could afford one ? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon. .. you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped. In my day, " grass " was mowed, " coke " was a cold drink, " pot " was something your mother cooked in, and " rock music " was your grandmother's lullaby to y'all. "Aids " were helpers in the Principal's office, " chip " meant a piece of wood, " hardware " was found in a hardware store, and " software " wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No one evered called us "old and confused" or said that there was a generation gap.........and kids, now just how old do you think I am ?????????
WHY, I'm only 79 years old !

Now that you are going on 21 years old,
" Did you get all that Son ? "
Now is your time to start to worry, huh ?

[ THERE IS A HIGHER PRICE TO BE PAID ! ]

You are richer today if you have laughed, given, and forgiven.

SO HERE IS SOME POSITIVE THOUGHTS TO PONDER ! ! !

AND THAT

~ ~ ~ OUR LIFE IS A JOURNEY ~ ~ ~

Life is a journey through many terrain
From gardens of pleasure to deserts of pain
From an ocean of love to a jungle of hate
From mountains of glory to canyons of fate
There's a highway for joy and a highway for sorrow
A road for today and a road for tomorrow
So choose your path wisely and walk with care
If you follow your heart, you'll find your way there
I've been to the garden and planted seeds there
I've been to the desert and felt the despair
I've swam in the ocean and drank of it's wine
I climbed up the mountain to touch the sky
I went to the canyon and started to cry
I've traveled both highways,
 Both today and tomorrow
I've basked in the joy and wallowed in sorrow
My path has been chosen and
I've walked it with care
I followed my heart and I'm on my way there
So I'll just keep walking till I find what I'm after
To mountains and oceans and
Gardens of laughter.

~ ~ ~ CONSIDER THIS ! ~ ~ ~

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful
for it,
If you can understand why your loved ones are too busy
to give you any time,
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out
on you, through no fault of yours something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart you
have no prejudice against creed, color, religion,
or politics,
Then my friend......

You are ALMOST as good as your dog !

" For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, " plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. " Jeremiah 29:11

~ ~ ~ REFLECTIONS OF A LOVING MOTHER ~ ~ ~

I gave you life, but cannot live it for you. I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn. I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you. I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it. I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe. I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you. I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you beautiful inside. I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you. I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you. I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish. I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor. I can advise you about friends, but cannot choose them for you. I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure. I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation. I can tell you about drinking, but I can't say "no" for you. I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them. I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you. I can teach you about kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious. I can warn you about sins, but I cannot make you moral. I can love you as a child, but I cannot place you in God's family. I can teach you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life.

AND

~ ~ ~ A STATE OF MIND ~ ~ ~

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win but think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you've lost;
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a person's will;
It's all in the state of mind.

Life's battles don't always seem to go
To the strongest or fastest man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.

~ ~ ~ THE WEAVER ~ ~ ~

My life is but a weaving Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors; He worketh steadily.
Oftimes he weaveth sorrow, And I in foolish pride
Forget he sees the upper, And I the underside.

Not 'til the loom is silent And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas And explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver In the pattern He has planned.

~ ~ ~ DON'T QUIT ~ ~ ~

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
that you must not quit.

~ ~ ~ WHERE LOVE ABIDES ~ ~ ~

I turned an ancient poet's book
And found upon the page,
" Stone wall do not a prison make
Or iron bars a cage. "

Yes, that is true, and something more,
You'll find where'er you roam
That marble floors and gilded walls
Can never make a home.

But everywhere that love abides,
And friendship is a guest
Is surely home, and home sweet home,
For there the soul can rest.

~ ~ ~ TODAY ~ ~ ~

Today's the day I'll make my world shine brighter.
I'll keep a friendly smile upon my face.
I'll hug the ones I love a little tighter.
My home will be a warmer, kinder place.

Today I'll work for peace and understanding
And in whatever job I have to do
I'll be more patient, less demanding
And listen well to other points of view.

Today I want to be alot more giving
And spend less energy on long-past griefs.
Today I plan to put more joy in living
By practicing, not preaching my beliefs.

Today I'll make somebody's burden lighter
I'll raise a lamp of hope for all to see
Today's the day I'll make my world
Shine brighter by being
The best me that I can be.
We will see !
