Private Instruction and Training Camps
Typhoon Philippine
School offers private instruction and semi-private Camps for interested
students. These methods of instruction are ideal for students who travel long
distances to train or do not have schedules that allow attendance to regularly
scheduled classes.
Private lessons are
available for a per-class rate of $40 per hour-and-a-half session with a minimum of
three sessions per month. Private lessons are actually semi-private, as we may schedule no more than three other private
lesson students at the same time slots. However, we will not schedule more than
one style per session. Private lessons are for students who have a unique
schedule requirement, such as late nights or early mornings. The benefits of
training with others besides your Instructor outweigh the benefits of training
one-on-one, so we do not teach one-on-one sessions. Our rationale is that
fighters need a variety of sparring partners of various sizes and abilities,
and one-on-one instruction cannot provide this.
Private students
are required to attend a minimum of one group sparring session per month in
addition to private lessons, and we do not charge for the group lesson.
Attendance to scrimmages and competition is mandatory to qualify for private
lessons.
Several times per
years, Typhoon Philippine School offers camps and mini-camps for students who wish
to study, but live too far to commute monthly. These camps are taught during
the day, and are full-time training days (4-6 hours), and attendance to regular
scheduled classes are strongly encouraged. We offer one- and two-week camps
each summer during the second and third weeks of August. All other camps are
held by request. Students may choose to train less than a week ($100 per day),
one to three weeks ($300 per week per person, including meals), or by the month
full-time ($800 per month).
The pace of
learning during the camps is, of course, accelerated. However, trainees train
intensely and should expect to perform countless repetitions of techniques
during his stay. Training camps can be equated to a military style boot camp,
where students may develop a month’s worth of training within a few short
weeks.
If you decide to
train with Typhoon for our mini-camps, do not expect to do much sightseeing, as
each waking hour of your training day will be occupied with learning or
practicing the martial art you choose to learn. Attendees are expected to pay
for their own lodging, but where possible we will arrange for a roommate to
cover ½ of your hotel costs. The cost of living in Sacramento is a little
higher than most cities, so plan well. Average hotel weekly rates range from
$150 to $225 per week. We will cover your food and transportation, so all you
will need is lodging, attendance fees, and toiletries and other necessities. We
will supply all of your training equipment and weapons.
