Languages of
First World

This is a brief list of languages of the realm. It is by no means complete but covers many of the most common languages encountered or known within Midland.

Common
This language is called common because it has become so pervasive that it is spoke to some degree by all human kingdoms. It was originally the language of Armania; it is spoken exclusively within that kingdom. It is also the official language of Roane. This language is also used by many demi-humans when communicating with humans. If at anytime cultures cross and they wish to find a language in common to communicate, this is the best bet.

Centaurian
Doppelganger***
Draconic
Commonly believed to be the language of the dragons, this is incorrect. Although all dragons speak this language and this may be why it is today called draconic. This is an ancient language that, some 3000 years ago, was the common tongue of the land. It is still used for many forms of magic and is often in ancient tomes and scrolls.

Dwarven, Khuzdul
The dwarven language is an ancient language. Though the dwarves do have sub-races (like the elves) they are less distinct than the elven sub-races. The dwarven language is used by most dwarves on Midland with little change from region to region and sub-race to sub-race. However there may be some dwarf sub-races or isolated communities with vastly different forms of this language. There is some variation of language of dwarves of different mountain ranges but this is usually minor.

Elvin
The elves have a common language, this is the language of the grey elf but is known and spoken by all elves (exceptions noted). High elves and wood elves have some variation in the common elf language but it is basically the same as the grey elf. (Anyone who speaks elfish can easily understand the high and wood elves. The drow have their own language. It is a derivative of the common elf language but due to the drow isolation from the other races it is not as close to the other races. Drows who enter the land above ground usually know some common elf. Anyone who speaks elf but not drow may be able to communicate to a non-elf speaking drow but with some difficulty. The grumach have their own language and it can very greatly from tribe to tribe. Usually grumach of a geographical region have a common language that can be used for intertribal communication but this language may be much less complex than their tribal language. Grumach may or may not speak the common elf language, depending on the tribe.

Humans being so fickle by other races standards (or adaptive as humans call it) it is no wonder that human cultures come and go. The human languages change at a rate not seen in other races. There fore there are often extinct, broken, or dying languages that may still be found.
