When one decides to leave home and go abroad to
pursue ones education the first questions of apprehension that form
in our mind are not about the syllabus or study pattern but about
where we will stay and how we will adjust to living away from family
and whether we will be able to make the transformation from pampered
kids to responsible young adults!!
Luckily for us international students of SMU,
we have had a wonderful experience of what life away from home is
staying at the College Green. The cluster housing at the college
green is not like a hostel but home. We stay in apartments, do our
washing, cooking and cleaning…..and enjoy these chores at that!
After a hard day at university it is a feeling of warmth and
homeliness that greets us when we enter our apartments.
The experience of living with people from
different countries as diverse as India, China, Indonesia, Cambodia
and Brunei has helped us gain a better understanding of the different
cultures of the world and yet appreciate the fact that we are in the
end quite similar.
We at College Green have become more than a
community of undergraduate students. Each one of us has become a
part of the CG family. Our individual experiences are shared with
others and our mistakes help others learn. We go through similar
problems and have each other to turn to.
For most of us here at college green it’s the
first time we are staying away from home, living independently and
we’ve had a wonderful time. The ties we’ve formed and the friends we
have made here are for life!
