To upload a file, graphic, image or banner etc. to your web site, it is easiest to use an ftp (File Transfer Protocol) program. You can download a free ftp program by going to any Search Engine and typing in ftp. Or you can 'click' on one of the links below and download the program. I use cuteftp, but I believe the basic info will be useable for all ftp programs.
After you've down loaded & opened the FTP program, you'll need to set it up. First, go to and click on FTP (on the top left) then click on 'Site Manager'. I use 'Personal FTP Sites' in the left window. In the right window click on 'Now Click Add Site'.
Next click 'Add Site' below the window and a new window will open. 'Site Label' is a name that you give it to identify it. 'Host Type' use 'Auto Detect'. 'Host Address' ftp.freesite.com (or whatever service you use.com.)
'Initial Remote Directory' you can just use / or freesite.myfiles/index.html. 'User ID' Your 'ID' 'Password' your 'password'. 'Remote Directory Filter' leave blank. 'Log In Type' Normal. 'Transfer Type' 'Auto Detect'. Then click 'OK'.
When you open the program, you'll see a window on the right and one on the left. What you see in the left window are your folders/directories & files on your computer. The window on the right, shows your files on your web site. If you see nothing in the right window, that's because you haven't uploaded any files or you're not connected to your site.
To upload a file or graphic, just click on the file that you want to upload, go up to 'Commands', scroll down to and click 'Upload'.
