SPWL Rules

Length of Games
All games will be five innings in length. All regular season games will be played as double-headers. Three outs per inning. In case of a tie, extra innings will be played by regulation baseball rules. Games may be called due to rain, if both managers agree to do so. They will also decide make up dates/times. If the difference in the teams scores is more than 15 after 3 innings, the game can be called if it is agreed upon by the trailing team's manager.

Balls and Strikes
A lawn chair will determine called strikes. Any pitch that hits any part of the lawn chair, other than the legs, will be a called strike. (Note: High, looping pitches that still hit the chair will be reguarded as balls). A pitch that hits the batter will be considered a ball, no base awarded. 4 balls equals a walk, three strikes equals a strikeout. If a foul tip with two strikes lands in the strike zone, the batter will be called out.

Field of Play
Each team will determine its home field. Length to each base will be 35 feet. The pitcher's mound will be located roughly 30-35 feet from home plate. Foul lines should be clearly marked and ground rules for the park should be gone over before the game between managers.

Outs
Outs can be recorded in many ways. 1. Catch a fly ball before it hits the ground. 2. Tag the runner with the ball (deer tagging is not considered a tag). 3. Stepping or placing any body part on the base in the case of a force out (with the ball in possession).

NEW ADDITIONS!

Pitching
From this point on Submarine pitching style will be outlawed. Submarine will be defineed as any form in which when the ball is delivered the throwing hand of the pitcher is lower than waist level. Any pitch thrown in this style will result in a warning and automatic ball for that pitch. The next pitch to be thrown submarine by either team will result in an automatic walk. If a third pitch is thrown in this manner the pitcher will be forced to a new position and a run awarded to the batting team.
A pitcher may pitch up to 5 innings per double header. Once the five innings is up that player must be removed from the mound.

Bats
The only bats legal for league games will be the original yellow plastic wiffle bats. No big boppers or any variation other than the above bat is considered illegal. No changes may be made to any bat. This includes, but is not limited to: taping the handle, putting objects inside of the bat, and adding weight in any form. The opposing team's manager has the right to ask to check the bats before every game. If a bat is found to be illegal before the game it is to be discarded. If this is found any time during the game, the game will be forfeited and will end a 0-1 loss to the team with the tampered bat.

Bunting
Bunting is illegal. An intentional bunt will be ruled an out.

Teams
Teams will consist of four players on a roster. All transactions cannot take place unless approved by the league head. After a certain date no transactions will be allowed. A draft date will be set to pick the teams. Jerseys are fine but not required. Teams can play with as many players as are present, but must be aware that doing so gives your team a great disadvantage.

Transactions
Transactions for the 2002 season must be completed by April 27, 2002. Trades must be approved by both coaches. A sheet of paper with the exact trade specifications and signatures of both managers must be submitted for a trade to take place. A player CAN be dropped for a player who was not in the draft (free agent), if the manager gets every other manager from the league to sign a paper allowing the transaction.
