”I try to say good-bye and I choke, try to walk away and I stumble, I try to hide it, it’s clear, my world crumbles when your not here” Macy Grey sang on the radio. Nicole shut off the song and walked out of her room to see Brian watching Basketball on the TV.
”Who’s playing?” Nicole asked. Brian moved over so she could sit next to him on the couch.
”UW-Madison and University Of South Florida” Brian replied.
”I hope Madison wins” Nicole laughed. Brian smiled at her.
”Well, I guess I’ll just get you some covers and a pillow so you can sleep” Nicole exclaimed.
”Yeah, thanks” Brian replied, watching the TV. Nicole sighed and walked to get the stuff. When she came back, Brian hadn’t moved.
”OH DAMN! USF lost!” Brian shouted.
”Good” Nicole muttered.
”Someone’s crabby” Brian laughed.
”No, I’m just tired” Nicole replied.
”Well, then, good-night Nicole” Brian exclaimed. Nicole walked away, then turned.
”I never told you my name” Nicole exclaimed. Brian picked up a book that was sitting on the table in front of the TV.
”It says ‘Nicole’ right here-so I guess it was a lucky guess” Brian replied smiling. Nicole smiled at him and walked to her room.
At midnight Nicole got up, she couldn’t sleep and she needed a drink of water. She walked past Brian on the couch and into the kitchen. On her back to her room she stopped and walked by the couch. Brian was sprawled out on the couch. Nicole chuckled softly and Brian’s eyes opened.
”Did I wake you?” Nicole asked.
”No, I was thinking, I’m sorry for everything” Brian exclaimed.
”What do you mean?” Nicole asked.
”I’ve totally been an ass tonight-barging in on you, you had to study and everything” Brian explained.
”Brian, don’t worry about it, It’s nice to have someone to talk to” Nicole replied.
”You mean, you don’t have a boyfriend?” Brian asked.
”Not at this moment” Nicole laughed. Brian sat up and moved some covers out of the way so Nicole could sit by him.
”Why?” Brian asked.
”I don’t know, I just don’t, I had a couple, but they were all jerks” Nicole replied. Brian smiled. Nicole never asked him about Jennifer, because she knew it was true, everyone knew. They ended up talking till about 3am, when Nicole fell asleep on one side of the couch and Brian fell asleep on the other.
Brian yawned and saw Nicole sleeping on the couch still, he got up slowly and walked to the bathroom. He couldn’t see in the dark and knocked into a table. The answering machine fell to the ground and started to beep.
”FUCK” Brian screamed, trying to stop it from beeping. He pressed a button when a message started to play.
”Hey cole, what’s up? This is Krissie and Katie, we’re at The Cube downtown, so, did you fuck a backstreet boy? Most likely not, remember, if you do, you need proof! Anyway, we wanted to make sure you were alright-see you later! BYE!” The voices yelled. The answering machine fell quiet and Brian smiled as an idea formed in his head.
“NICOLE, Are you up?” Katie asked, opening the door to the apartment. Nicole was still sleeping on the couch when they walked in. Nicole streched and got up.
”I’m up” Nicole muttered.
”So, did you win our little bet?” Andrea asked. Nicole was about to respond, when Brian walked out of Nicole’s room in his boxers.
”Hey ladies” Brian exclaimed. All 3 of their jaws dropped. Nicole looked as shocked as the rest of them.
”Nicole, I knew you told me to leave early, but I decided to stay, I mean, after last night, I had to stay” Brian exclaimed. Nicole gave Brian a weird look. Brian walked over to Nicole and pressed his lips to hers. Nicole was shocked at first, but soon kissed him back. Brian rubbed his hand on her back and pulled away.
”I’ll call you” Brian replied. He handed her Dan’s clothes, then went to put his on. Katie looked at Nicole.
”You fucked Brian? I thought for sure, IF you did, it would’ve been AJ” Katie joked. Brian walked out, fully clothed and grabbed the keys to the moped. He winked and Nicole and left.
”How was he?” Andrea asked.
”You wouldn’t believe me if I told you” Nicole laughed.
