Josie pulled her engagement ring off her finger the minute the doctor opened Nick's door. He was just sitting in his bed. He looked up at her and gave her a smile. His usual pearly white, happy grin was faded and his usual brightness was gone. His hair was kinda shaggy and he'd grown a mustache, but he still looked the same. Josie flashed him a big smile and walked towards the bed he gave her a hug and held her tight.
"I thought I lost you" Josie sniffed.
"Me? Never" Nick replied. He shifted in his bed, then reached under his pillow. "I've had this for over a year now"
"What is it?" Josie questioned. He opened a little black box and showed her the gold engagement ring with a peridot gem and diamonds surronding it. Josie let him slip it on her finger.
"Josie will you..." Nick started.
"Isn't it kinda sudden? I mean...C'mon we only got back together awhile ago" Josie cut him off. Nick stared at her.
"I almost lost you Josie and I can't lose you again" Nick replied. Josie stared at him. "Just wear it for now please"
"OK, but I think your family also wants to see you-I cant keep you all to myself" Josie lied.
"Please keep me, I don't mind" Nick replied. Josie gave him a half smile, then leaned over to kiss his cheek.
"After almost killing myself to save you all I get is a kiss on the cheek?" Nick asked. Josie gave him a peck on the lips.
"Satisfied?" Josie joked.
"Never" Nick replied as she left the room.
"I HAVE TO TELL HIM" Josie screamed at the people in the waiting room.
"I doctor told us..." Brian started.
"I dont give a flying fuck what the doctor said. He has no idea how hard it is NOT to tell him that in a couple months Im gonna be Mrs Chris Watson!" Josie screamed. Leigh sighed.
"Girl, you do whatever your heart tells you to. In all the years I've known you, You never fucked up once when you let your heart decide" Leigh explained. Josie pulled Chris's ring out of her pocket and put it on her finger with Nick's ring. You could tell Nick's was more expensive. Josie sighed. She looked up and the 12 people sitting in front of her. They were all awaiting her decsion.
"I guess I could tell Chris my job kept me in NY longer then I thought it would" Josie mumbled. 12 smiling faces looked at her. "This doesnt mean I wont leave after Nick's OK and all of this has been explained to him"
"Of course it doesn't" AJ smirked.
"So can I leave?" Nick asked as he stood up. He'd been in the hospital for almost a year and 7 months (He thought only a month) and today the doctors were going to explain to him about his coma and after that Josie and the guys were to explain what had happened over the past year and a half. Josie had called Chris everynight for the last month. She's even written what she was going to say to Nick over 100 times; never seeming to get it right and now with the day there, she had no idea what to say.
"You can leave right after we explain something to you Mr. Carter. You see, 2 days after you were hit by that car in Times Sqaure, you went into a coma. Now, you were in this coma for over a year and a half. You came out of it about a month ago. We see that when we tell patients what had happened to them, they usually slip back into the coma and we didn't want that. Do you understand what i'm saying?" The Doctor questioned.
"Sure, I'm not stupid" Nick replied.
"Are you sure about that Frack?" Brian joked. Nick stuck hsi tounge out at Brian. Nick was back and seemed to not care about the coma.
"Well, You're free to stay here until 8 tonight if you'd like. I'll sign your release form and you can be out of here soon" The Doctor explained as he left with the Carter family following him.
"A whole year and a half? Thats amazing" Nick exclaimed.
"We were afriad you wouldn't make it" Kevin exclaimed.
"But I always knew you would" Leighanne explained. Nick smiled.
"So Brian, you and Leigh got any little Brians yet?" Nick questioned.
"Actually, No but...." Brian started.
"Little Leigh's then? Thats great!" Nick exclaimed.
"Actually Nick, me and Brian got a divorce about a year ago" Leighanne explained. Nick was quiet.
"Your shitting me-You guys are perfect for eachother" Nick explained.
"Nothing's perfect Nick" Leighanne explained. Everyone explained what their lives had been like the past year while Nick sat and listened intently. Finally, Nick stared at her. Josie gulped. Her palms were sweaty as she began to speak.
"Well, My dad and his wife, You rememeber them? They had a little girl. Um, I moved out to California and lived with a friend. Um, lets see, Oh yea...I met this guy named Chris and we're kinda engaged" Josie muttered.
"I don't think I heard you right. I thought ya said your engaged to someother guy" Nick laughed. Josie cringed.
"Thats cause I am" Josie replied. Nick didn't say a word. Then he looked up at her.
"Thats Great Josie. I'm happy for you" Nick exclaimed. "I think I'm gonna stay here until 8 tonight. I've been paying for this and I'm kinda tired so If you guys could leave me alone that would be great"
"Yea-Bye" Everyone exclaimed. Josie saw the sadness on Nick's face.
"Bye" Josie whispered.
