Tonight’s meeting:
Tonight we welcome a UWRF Professor who will speak to our
troop about Buddhism. She has experience giving an “intro to Buddhism” talk
to colleges and schools. This is part of our Interest Project patch “A World
of Understanding” which suggests finding out about a religion that differs
from your own.

Sports Lock-In:
Jamie and Rachel had a good time at the Lock-In. We played
basketball, HORSE, with Troop 1510, and we “adopted” a younger troop to
cheer on while they did the pole vault and tried out hockey skates for the first
time!

Cookie Orders Due Tonight!
Gayle will be collecting your cookie orders at tonight’s
meeting. Cookie pick-up is Thursday, February 27th from 3-6 at the Armory. Money
is due March 16th. A big THANK YOU to Gayle for again being our fearless Cookie
Manager!

Operation Ladysmith:
Jamie, Jill and Stephanie are finishing up their Silver Award
Project with a food drive to aide the tornado-stricken town of Ladysmith, WI.
They plan to replenish the depleted food shelf in Ladysmith. The food drive will
be held February 9th through the 21st. Collection boxes will be available at
schools and churches in River Falls. Please help out by donating non-perishable
food items.

Upcoming Events:
River Falls Girl Scouts Garage and Bake Sale:
Saturday, April 26th from 9-2 at the Armory. Set-up is from 4-8 Friday evening,
April 25th. Start saving “stuff”!
Annual Girl Scout
Talent Show: Thursday, February 20th at 6:30 pm at MMS auditorium. We do not
have a part in the program this year but it is always fun to attend and watch.

Finances:
We currently have $805.57 after spending $99 on
Lock-In registrations. These registrations were based on phone call commitments
to participate.

Bridge to Senior Girl Scouts Patch:
These are the eight steps to earning the Bridge to Senior
Girl Scout patch; however, a troop may bridge without earning the patch. Troop
1577 can bridge as soon as our troop members doing their Silver Award have
completed their requirements. We will have to plan a great bridging! To earn the
patch, we would do the following:
-
Find out about Senior Girl Scouting. Interview at least
two former or current Senior Girl Scouts to find out what they do at this
age level.
-
Page through A Resource Book for Senior Girl Scouts
to learn more about Senior Girl Scouting. Read two sections from two
different chapters in that book.
-
Do something with a Senior Girl Scout. You might visit
a Senior Girl Scout meeting or help out with an interest or community
service project.
-
Help others learn about Cadette and/or Senior Girl
Scouting.
-
Find out more about Apprentice Trainer,
Leader-in-Training (LIT), and Counselor-in-Training (CIT) opportunities
available in your area. Review a Wider Ops magazine to see which
opportunities are open to Senior Girl Scouts only.
-
Conduct a leadership activity with a group of younger
Girl Scouts.
-
Design your own bridging ceremony. Consult the GSUSA
resource, Ceremonies in Girl Scouting, for ideas.
-
Plan and participate in a summer Girl Scout activity.
