Blink

Goldfish swimming circles around his tiny captive home.
Murky water makes his brilliant gold scales look grim.
Every once in awhile he gets fed,
If he looks forward to eating, is unknown.
His world is inadequate to our own.
His life is controlled by others.
And yet,
He swims happily in endless circles of repetition,
In a glass bowl of murky water,
And blinks,
At me through the glass
Contently.
