Dead Poets Society
One of the best movies ever made (in my opinion)

Welcome to Welton Academey. As you enter, let your eyes wander to the photographs of the potent and intellectual pasted faces of the boys who once attended this fine acadamy. Remember the four pillars as you stroll down the halls, the bottom of your shoes clicking on the tile floors. Knock on the library door and you will discover one of the many study groups held each night by a group of friends.
Say hello to Neil, the leader of the group. He'll introduce you to Knox, who's eyes must be wandering thinking of his beloved girl, Chris. Pitts and Meeks will no doubt be working on their hi fi system trying to get a radio station while Charlie aka Nuanda will be somewhere making snide remarks. Todd of course will be living up to his ideal student potential along with Cameron who of course is studying his notes for the next exam, never mind it being in gym class. Take a stroll down the hall and meet the man who dares to take a chance on adolescent boys who are growing into men. He doesn't just passively let them metomorphasis. He dares them to think for themselves and teaches them to savor the English language. Professor John Keating. Who makes learning fun, and inspires the boys at Welton to make their lives extroadinary. His favorite phrase, emphasized many a time is "Carpe Diem, Sieze the day."

If you start to whistle while you walk, decide you want to be known as Nuanda, and have Carpe Diem as your motto for life, you very well might be a Dead Poets' fan. Or maybe fanatic. Or maybe the movie changed your life, like it has mine, and you can't help sharing it with the world in any way you can. Well here is how I'm going to share it. If you haven't seen the movie, please see it, because it's worth the trip down the dusty video rental shelves. Read on fellow Dead Poet fans and novices. Immerse yourself!

QUOTES

"How can you describe poetry like American Bandstand? Well, I like Byron, I give him a 42 but I can't dance to him."

"Dammit Neil, the name's Nuwanda!"

"Carpe Diem!"

"What good amongst these, oh me, oh life! The answer? That life exists. That YOU exist. That the powerful play goes on, and You may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and YOU may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?"

I think to fully appreciate this one you'll have to listen to it. Go to this DPS site and under sounds you'll find "huddle speech" While your there check out all the rest. It's a good site.

Scenes to Pay Attention To...
One of my favorite scenes in the movie...Sweaty Toothed Mad Man Todd is in Mr. Keating's English class. Everyone was supposed to write a poem but Todd thought that nothing he could come up with was good enough so he didn't do the assignment. Keating insists he get up in front of the class.

Charles Dalton..An Original Verse In this scene, Nuanda plays the saxophone. Beautiful music!

Carpe Diem Mr. Keating takes the boys into the hall and tells them to look at the photos of the lads that used to go to Welton. He whispers in their ears.."Carpe Diem..Sieze the day boys, make your lives extrodinary."
