Trip Through The Bible

Shared by Mary, The Game Lady

This fun board game helps the whole family learn the order of the Books of the Bible.

To Make:

I used 3/4" white circle stickers to make the game path. You will notice that there are also a couple red spaces and a couple green spaces. On each of the white spaces is written the name of one of the Books of the Bible. All 66 are there and in order. You will notice the black line on the lower right hand corner that divides the Old Testament Books from the New Testament Books.

The PLAYING CARDS for this game each have a Bible reference written on them. The references are for Bible verses that we did not yet know, and some were for longer passages, such as the Ten Commandments, The Lord Prayer, The Beautitudes, etc.

NOTE: The SECOND purpose of this game was to help us to learn some of these Bible verses, or at least their location and become familiar with them.

To Play:

Each player selects a playing piece. In turn, the player draws a card from the shuffled pile of playing cards. He reads the reference. Then, if he is able, he recites the passage. If he is unable to recite it from memory, he opens his Bible and reads the passage.

(NOTE: the "visual" picture of the layout of the Books of the Bible is a great help in finding the references.)

Then the player shakes a pair of dice and moves. If he READ the scripture, he moves the number of spaces indicated by his shake. If he QUOTED FROM MEMORY the scripture, he moves DOUBLE the shake. However, his turn is not yet over. He must recite the Books of the Bible IN ORDER from Genesis to the name on the space he is now sitting. He may use the names on the path if he needs assistance.

If a player lands on a red space, he loses his next turn. If he lands on a green space, takes an additional turn.

COOPERATIVE PLAY: In this game, any player who reaches the end of the playing spaces CONTINUES to take turns. He proceeds with his turn as he normally would. However, when it is time to move a playing piece, he helps a "friend" by moving whichever gamepiece is the furthest from the end. The game is over when ALL players' pieces have completed the path. ALL PLAYERS ARE DECLARED WINNER as we each know a little more scripture and the Books of the Bible just a little better.
