| This is probably what your retailer or manufacturer and, rather amazingly, the Microsoft help-desk will all too eagerly advise you to do. But oddly enough, this can be a roundabout way of finding out whether it's a Windows problem or a hardware problem (you'd better first check if it's not a memory problem).
If it's not a Windows problem, you will get error messages during setup. You won't get them at the start or during the copying of files, but mainly in the end, when Windows is adjusting the system configuration. You'll have to keep pushing the reset button untill setup is complete, and that could take a while, a few hours, actually. All you can do is control your rage and keep pushing the button. At one time, the process will be complete, sometimes notwithstanding the error message on the screen--so make sure the configuration setup is really stuck (i.e. your hard disk doesn't give any sign of life) before you go clicking the 'close' button or reset.
After this pleasant experience, you can safely rest asure that Windows is not the problem, or: that Windows doesn't like your hardware (which doesn't necessarily mean that there something wrong with it).
Before you decide on reinstalling, for whatever reason, you should read our Reinstalling Windows without Losing your Data. |
