Buldancer Took the Hobbit and his twelve hobbit archers of the Shire were invited to Annuminas, the capital city of Arthedain, to witness the wedding of Prince Arvedui of Arthedain and Princess Firiel of Gondor. On the way to the wedding they encountered the Mind Elementals of the White Hills, the dispossessed Hobgoblin King Kalimax, hobbits were captured by Greatgoblins and freed in battles joined by the Hobbits themselves and their allies the Elves of Lord Cirdan of Greyhavens. One of their number became the friend of Dragons and another rescued a Hobgoblin child from sacrifice. The hobbits broke precedent by taking Greatgoblins prisoner rather than dispatching them on the spot. They sailed with Cirdan’s fleet and voyaged up the river Lhun and across the Hills of Evendim accompanied by Dru~gs or Puklemen with whom the hobbits had common interests.

After the marriage festivities. Most of the Archer troop and the delegation from Gondor journeyed from Annuminas to Gondor down the Brandywine river with the intent to drop off the Hobbits as the column passed the Shire. Some hobbits joined Cirdan the Shipwright as his fleet sailed down the coast south to the ports of Gondor.

Before these expeditions left the glittering city of Annuminas, Bully Took and Malbeth the Seer of Arthedain conferred with Trevor Cendarion, the elven diplomat, upon how to deal with the threat of the puppet kingdom of Rhudaur. Rhudaur had long ago been overrun by the forces of the Witchking and rumour had it that evil forces were massing to strike at Arthedain.

Bulley, Malbeth and Trevor took it upon themselves to penetrate Rhudaur to see for themselves how strong were the forces opposing Arthedain.
