Part 2: Chapter 10

“Hanson stayed at your house?” the auburn haired girl shouted to Sarah when they reached their row.

Rebekah overheard and stepped in front of the Hadlers to answer for Sarah. “Yeah. We’re friends.” Rebekah struggled to keep her voice even. She didn’t want to sound snobby.

They all walked into the row. Isaac was saying something, but Rebekah wasn’t listening. She was anticipating the girl’s response.

“Can you introduce me?!” the girls practically screamed. By then, Katie, Kristen, and Sarah were also listening to the older girls’ conversation.

“I’ll think about it,” she shouted above the screaming crowd as the last song, “I Will Come to You,” began. All four girls adored this song. It seemed like the whole audience did, too. Rebekah sang as loud as she could, but her voice betrayed her. She couldn’t get much more than a squeak here and there since she lost her voice.

Katie glanced at the auburn haired girl. As the girl sang passionately along with Hanson, longing tears formed in her eyes. Katie nudged her tall friend in the ribs, “Let’s introduce her.”

Rebekah looked surprised and a little worried, “Are you sure the guys will be OK with that?”

“Probably.”

“Sure, bud, but guess what?” Rebekah paused, “She has no pass.”

“Well, we’ll think of something.” Katie was determined to find a way to get the girl to meet Hanson. She shrugged it off and continued singing. This was the last song. She had to take advantage of that.

The blue spotlight shone on Ike’s face, illuminating his sweaty complexion. The keyboardist behind Isaac swung his head back and forth, not keeping time with the heart wrenching ballad. Isaac, on the other hand, sang with sincerity enough to prove that he was putting his whole heart into his performance. Even the worst Hanson hater would say that those guys truly loved what they did.

I will come to you. Oh, I will come to¼ð you¼ð the guys sang, finishing in a beautiful, soulful harmony. Most of the girls in the audience cried. The auburn haired girl wept. Kristen looked at her uncomfortably. She personally thought that the girl was weird and didn’t want her to join them with Hanson.

The lights changed from blue to white and centered on the middle front of the stage. The guys walked to the front of the stage and clasped hands. They looked at each other and then out at the audience, smiling. Rebekah screamed, hooted, and clapped along with everyone else. The Hadlers also joined in, squealing and clapping as loud as they could. The concert was over. They couldn’t believe it. It was the most beautiful thing the girls had ever seen or heard. The guys’ bow touched each fan’s heart, leaving them with a memory they would never forget as long as they lived.

After about three minutes, Katie leaned over toward the girl as the deafening shouting and cheering died down, “What’s your name?”

Still bawling, the girl answered through her tears, “Julie, are you going to introduce me?” Katie nodded. Julie’s green eyes lit up and her tears seemed to magically dry. “Thank you!” she shouted sincerely above the still loud park.

“We have to figure out a way to get Hanson to you, since you don’t have a pass,” explained Rebekah, causing everybody discouragement.

“Bring them to me,” Julie suggested. The five girls planned to meet behind the backstage area in about thirty minutes. Julie wanted the time to be much less, but Rebekah almost harshly explained that they had to call her mom, find Hanson, convince them to come, and find Julie again. In fact, Rebekah was pushing for longer, but she didn’t get her way.

Zac followed his brothers off the stage. “Good job, guys,” he congratulated, “That was definitely one of our best concerts.”

“Yeah,” Taylor agreed. He gave his brothers a high five while they waited for their parents and bodyguard to lead them backstage.

“You did great!” Diana said, rushing over to her sons.

“We started to get worried when Zac sped up ‘A Minute Without You,’” Isaac scolded playfully.

Diana laughed, “He’s the drummer.” Rebekah overheard and stepped in front of the Hadlers to answer for Sarah. “Yeah. We’re friends.” Rebekah struggled to keep her voice even. She didn’t want to sound snobby.

“I can do whatever I want,” Zac exclaimed proudly. Taylor grabbed Zac and wrapped his arm around Zac’s neck. As Taylor drove his fist into Zac’s head and rubbed back and forth, Zac shouted in mock pain.
