Cryologist Victor Fries had developed an experimental cryogenic freezing chamber, with which he intended to preserve his terminally ill wife, Nora. He was in the final steps of preparing the chamber when angry executives burst in and declared the project terminated. Fries pleaded with the angry men, but they would not listen. When Fries threw his body over the chamber to save his wife's last chance of living, the men opened fire. The cryogenic chamber was riddled with bullets, and the freezing fluid leaked out, covering Victor Fries. When Fries awoke, he found his laboratory and research destoyed. His skin had turned blue, and soon Fries discovered he could not survive outside of a subzero enviornment. Mr. Freeze continues to try to find a cure for his wife, but his methods are often destructive to Gotham and its citizens.
