5ive (Thirty)

A TOKEN REVIEW

Boy - o - boy band! Is this 4-Real? Have the early mornings finally got to Triple J's breakfast tag team of Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson? Is it true they're chucking in their radio responsibilities to form their very own toothy, manufactured, boy-band?

Well, it's true for at least four shows. We hope the boys will have more respect for themselves than to continue after that.

5ive Thirty will feature Adam, Wil and special guests basically horsing around with all new stand up and sketches, periodically interrupted with other dubiously conceived musical spectaculars.

Adam and Wil definitely have a pronounced tendency to present the unusual when they work together. Previous collaborations have included benefit nights for the Australian Women's Lacrosse Team and a tag-team assault on the World Scrabble Championships.

Adam Spencer is notoriously Australia's brainiest radio dj. An official Maths Wiz, and world debating champion, he has been holding the JJJ Breakfast reins for more than a year. He can also be seen showing off his smarts on Quantum and F.A.Q.s on ABC TV.

5ive Thirty is his first live Melbourne Comedy Festival adventure.

Wil Anderson is performing in two (count 'em) other shows in the Comedy Festival, concerning international finance and Australian history, so boy bands are a welcome change of pace. Wil's unique approach to topical comedy, mixing it up with pop culture, has also made him one of the country's most popular live performers.
