Class of 1998!!!!!!

Hi Everyone!! On May 28th 1998 we held our Spring Concert at Yorkville Elementary School. For the 21 eigth graders in band it was our last spring concert at Yorkville, and it brought about many tears being shed. In amongst all the tears, you could also find some happiness, two people were selected for Band Student Of The Year, and Jazz Band Student Of The Year. Even before that night hit, many people knew who they thought deserved them, and who they thought would get them, needless to say some of their sus[itions were wrong. Nic Fugate, one of my best friends recieved Jazz Band award, he plays percussion, and does an awesome job at it, I know in my heart that one day he will go on to be famous for something, possibally his Percussion playing. One of the most meaningfull songs that we played at our spring concert this year was, Go The Distance from the Disney movie Hercules. That song was very meaningfull in a few respects, even though only two people were se;ected as outstanding students, we all knew in our hearts that since the first time we picked up our instruments until now we have all come a long way. All of the eigth graders were recognized during that song, but finally the band student of the year was anounced, it was me. Needless to say, i was NOT expecting it, being that there were MANY deserving people, and I was only a familiar "face in the crowd," There are still today some people who are truely mad at Mrs. Tucker for her two choices, even though we all KNOW we deserved it. Our Spring Concert ended much to soon it seems, and before we knew it, the night was over, and so was our Education at Yorkville School. All the teachers were upset to see us leave saying that, we were one of the best classes that they have had in a long time. A few of the teachers, especially two of my favorites, Mrs. North and Mrs. Maass gave us a long, kind of depressing speech on how much they were going to miss us mext year. Mrs. North said, " Some times classes get a bad rap from when they were little kids, and unfortunatley, the class of 1998 was one of them. I have seen many changes in you guys over the past three years that I have had you in class, and most of them are changes I like. I would not change ANY of you, in anyway because you guys all have VERY special qualities. You willl ALL go very far in life if you just believe in yourselves, and in others. The world can sometime be a big, scary mess out there, but you always have people to turn to. No matter how old you are, or how far away you live, never forget that you are from Yorkville, and that you are always welcome here." That is definatley one thing I will NEVER forget. Yorkville has helped each and every one of us form what we are, and what we will be. All of us will go our own seperate ways next year, and not all of our friendships will last forever as we would like them to, but we all have one VERY special thing in common....we all came from Yorkville. I feel that each and every teacher at Yorkville deserves a special thank you, not only from the Yorkville class of 1998, but from the society that they have introduced us to. Not all of us will go on to make our school proud, infact, it is a great possibility that some of us may not even make it through high school, but we all WILL play our part in society, and we just hope that they are ready for us.
