September is a time for hearing the wind blowing through the treetops; school bells; children's laughter; the birds chirping in the distance; small animals scurrying through the woods and the sound of geese flying overhead.
September is a time for tasting homemade jam or jelly; fresh apple and pumpkin pies; school lunches; bowls of tomato soup, grilled cheese, and dill pickle spears. It is a time for tasting the fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the backyard garden.
September is a time for smelling backyard barbecues; fruits and vegetables being canned; burning leaves; wood smoke from the chimney next-door; home-cooked meals and the sweet aroma of pie's baking in the kitchen. It is a time for smelling the warm air, sensing that the cold air will be arriving soon.
September is a time for touching friends' and family members' hearts; the crisp, cool air on your fingertips; the dew in the grass on your bare-feet each morning and the pile of leaves that have fallen from the trees. It is a time for touching all the wonderful things that summer has left behind.
