~ life in theblood ~

bloody line

Walking through the darkened building, I suppressed a shudder and continued my search for life. Cautiously, I picked my way over the garbage and filth lying in the room. Streaks of light from the moon shined on the walls through the boarded windows. I knew they were still wet from the blood of the victims. Knowing made my heart beat faster. I strained to see, but only darkness filled my eyes. I took another step and my foot hit something soft. Kneeling, I tried to identify the object. I felt weak as I jerked my hand away. It was another body. Images of what the room would look like in the light filled my imagination. Another deep breath, and I continued searching, stepping over the corpse. A blackness, darker than the shadows, pounded through my body, and my hands began to shake. I still continued to the nothingness like a moth to a flame. Sweat dripped from my pores. I nervously stumbled over the garbage on the floor, finding my way to a door to another room. I slowly opened the creaking door and entered. I stepped farther into the darkness, not knowing what was in store. The room was completely lacking the outside moonlight. I felt myself reach for the flashlight from my bag, and closed my eyes at the blinding flash of light. It took only a few seconds to focus. One sight I will never erase from my memory. Human flesh lined the walls like animal hides tacked on a barn wall. Arms and legs of various degrees of decomposition lay scattered about the floor. Decaying bones and rotting flesh were everywhere. I became dizzy, and at that moment, I fell to my knees, feeling weak and exhausted. I knew I had to keep going, I had to find them. As I made my way across the room I saw flickers of light coming from underneath a door ahead. Once again I stumbled and fell to the floor, but this time I couldn’t lift myself back up. I lay motionless, tried to scream, to make any sound, but pure silence filled my ears. I felt a great pain and agony throughout my body, as though my life was being taken away. Rage consumed me. I felt helpless. The only thing that could save me now was what would be waiting for me behind that door. Hot burning fire filled me, spreading through my body like a flame along the fumes of gasoline. I thought I would go mad with the pain. Then, as if someone had removed earplugs, I suddenly heard the night. I gripped my head to block the sounds, but could not stop the downpour of jumbled confusion pounding my eardrums. Every sound was amplified. I could hear the small worms that ate the flesh of the dead humans around me. I tried to scream again to stop the madness and this time I heard my shriek for help. A chill went through my body, leaving goose bumps along my pale skin. As I looked ahead to the door, I saw that someone had finally come for me. The dark figure stood in the doorway. I reached out my hand to him and he came closer, slowly. I began to panic and my body filled with fear. The dark figure reached his hand toward mine and as our hands locked together, most of my fear had disappeared. I knew he was there to save me. He pulled me to my feet, held me up, and brushed his long, dark hair away from his pale face. A flicker of light passed along his face. Instant relief rushed through me; my love had found me and would make sure that I would regain my strength. He needed me as much as I needed him. He led me to the room I had so longingly hoped to reach. As we entered, my strength was beginning to return, but I wouldn’t be fully restored until I had the sweet wine of the body lying on the bed. The walls shimmered in the dim light of the candles. I slowly bent over the motionless, emaciated body and tasted the sweet wine from her neck. Her sweet blood filled my mouth and I now felt healed and so full of rapture. I was now complete.
