The Lost Love
Chapter 3
D took Nightmare to the castle, he rode under the moonlight and found the castle once again. He dismounted and walked the rest of the way there. The terrain was smooth with no trees or rocks to hide behind, D would have to rely on speed to make it to the castle. All he needed was a quick circling to find the weakness of the guard. With that information he could plan the final assault on Jonathan.

As he approached the castle, he felt a sensation. His vampiric sense flared letting him know of another presence. He could feel his fangs beginning to grow and his strength was beginning to hypen. He turned around and with his sword drawn confronted the enemy ahead. His cape flew up and swirled around him as he moved. The figure was motionless standing to the side, D could see him smoking a cigarette. His cape hung on him, not giving D a view of any armor or even as to his size. He wore a long brimmed hat that the edge glistened like steel in the light.

"A weapon, if he threw it it would cut my head off."D thought.

"You're very observant, not many people would pay attention to the hat."

"Not to is a mistake, I don't make mistakes."

"Everyone does, even I do, as hard as it is to admit."

"What do you want, Jonathan?"

"Why only to excuse my earlier actions."he turned to face D and bowed, before him.

"Excuse?"D asked, surprised by Jonathan's actions. "Excuse my demeanor earlier, I wasn't having a good morning and then to see her with another man."

"You didn't come here for a social visit."D steadied himself.

"Actually, I did, see I have to meet my future brother-in-law. You have asked her yet, haven't you? I could see it in your eyes, the same look I get when I see her. You want to hold her and love her forever, but you would have to marry her and that is hard for you to do isn't it?"

"She is not your sister, why drag it out?"

"Please don't change the subject, have you asked her for her hand?"

"No, I haven't"

"Why, man to man, I would like to know, I mean you've already bedded her, or is she a passing fancy for you."his tone was vicious and hurtful.

"That is none of your business."

"But it is, I mean as an opposing suitor, I have to know my competition."

"To her you are nothing, there is no competition for you are not an option to her."D matched Jonathan's cruel tone.

"Are you certain, that she would only want you, I know she enjoyed it when I held her and kissed her neck, I could feel I upon her skin, she was excited."he licked his lips.

"At least I never forced myself upon her she welcomed me."

"Now the truth, comes out, you're a little boy, trying to be big, by upping me one to everything I say."

"No, just shutting you up and leaving you to petty insults."

"Clever, I'll leave it at that."

"How could she want you, you are vendictive, and have murdered her kind for years, she is no sadist to warrant this kind of treatment you offer her."

"I'm a sociopath at heart, actually, I wasn't lying when I said I wanted her, but, I'll have to kill you first, I can't kill her, it wouldn't be..."he searched for a word,"healthy for me."

"Healthy?"D asked, he relaxed his stance a little and positioned his sword before him.

"Ask yourself this and then go, why is it that she has lived for so long, ten times longer than the average mage and why haven't I killed her, really?"he exhaled out a final puff of smoke and vanished.

D looked up and found himself back at the stables, his mind searching for an answer to Jonathan's question. He walked back to the castle and came face to face with Genivieve. She stood at the entrance to the stables, wearing only a thin silk slip. D approached her and noticed that she seemed disturbed.

"You saw him?"

"Yes, he wanted to talk, a social visit he called it."

"What did he say?" her tone was worried.

"He called me his future brother-in-law, and made me ask myself why it is that you have lived so long, really." D took her arm and walked back to the forayer.

"Brother-in-law? that's unusual, does he honestly plan our wedding?"she laughed

"He also admitted to being a sociopath, if that says anything."D smiled.

"Tomorrow is another day, perhaps then we will learn more. Perhaps tomorrow I will arrange a family reunion."her eyes became deep red, they set on fire, yet with no heat, just a glow. D could sense something different about her, her aura shifted. She smiled and it seemed different, her teeth looked more like a vampire's, but not enough like them to worry him. Her hair turned black and she seemed more commanding.

"It's her, the lady in the picture, the general that had a victory in Eurasia!" D thought.

"It ends here, I will not continue with him, always interfering in everything I do." She was tense and angry, a side of her D had never would have guessed was there. This side was almost vampiric and yet not, it wasn't human, mage or vampire.

"What is she?"D pondered.

Elsewhere in the castle Tremon, Jonathan sat upon his bedroom balcony railing. He wore black silk pajama pants and that's it. His chest was defined by muscles, showing a well chiseled form. His hair came freely to his shoulders and his expression was intense. A young woman , lay naked upon the bed a few yards behind him. She was young and pale, with no movement left in her, not even to breathe. She was his evening feeding and play toy.

"Another woman, she felt special for a moment of her miserable life and died basking in that moment."He was saddened by this thought for no human woman captured him like Genivieve.

He remembered them as children about ten years old. She was short and slightly chubby, with a rounded nose and shoulder length red hair. He was a few inches taller and was slim with silver short hair. They were in a field, playing after studying. They were on a quest to slay a dragon and bring peace to the land. As they finished Genivieve began to speak.

"Hey, brother, promise me that if one day I need you, you'll be there to save me."he could hear her voice as a small child.

"I promise, that I will always love and protect my sister."

She hugged him and jumped up to kiss his cheek.

He saw another image of them, they were about twenty years old and just learned that they were not truly brother and sister. They looked as they do now, not aging a moment from that point.

"How, we called each other brother and sister and we were not?"she cried as her heart broke.

"I don't know, perhaps it was for the best that way we wouldn't discriminate or hurt each other." he hugged her allowing her to cry upon his shoulder. He lifted her chin it was moist form the tears and he kissed her. Their first kiss for both of them, she broke from him in shock.

"Don't we shouldn't, it feels odd, after all the years of being brother and sister with Chaotica as our mother."

"I love you,"

"Like a sister, right?"

"No, I have known for a while that we were not related."

"You didn't tell me!"

"I didn't want to loose you, Genivieve I love.."

"Don't say that!" she slapped him.

He watched her run from him, he shuddered a tear and vowed to one day be reunited with her. That was the day he destroyed Chaotica and the day he lost his love.

He cried to the moon, screaming with a force that would shatter a house of glass. His eyes became a brighter blue, setting on fire like Genivieve's. He breathed deeply and rapidly, slamming his fist into the railing, it shattered.

"Genivieve!" he shouted, before collapsing.

At that moment Genivieve collapsed and Jonathan's scream could be heard running through the castle and cracking the glass windows. D caught her and covered her as the glass ultimately shattered, sending shards into D's back. D stood up and using his psionics removed the glass from him, he bled upon the rug for a moment and then it stopped. Genivieve was in a deep sleep and D carried her to bed.

As D laid her upon the velvety bed she began to stir, she was coming out of her sleep.

"D, there are things of heaven and earth that cannot be explained, what happened is one of them. I feel his pain and anger, he knows mine, we share a bond, that cannot be explained." she whispered to D as he sat beside her.

"How could you love a cursed woman, one who would love you and yet burden you with so much pain and anger."She looked away from D and a gentle tear fell from her eye.

"I don't know, but I do, for the little time I have known you, I have fallen for you. We meld when we make love, we care for each other, believe in each other. I could not ask for a better woman and there is something about you that holds me to you that I cannot, nor do not want to explain."

"Fate?"

"Beyond fate, beyond, human knowledge of love, beyond the concept of heaven, their lies this connection for me to you."

"As it is for me to you, D, I love you and do not want to be without you, as corney and redundant as that sounds." she smiled and D kissed her.

"Perhaps there is something that Jonathan knew about this that we didn't or did but couldn't admit."

"Maybe we shouldn't, perhaps it is better that we part, perhaps we shouldn't be,"D pulled her closer,"be doing,"they kissed again. The kissed passionately and deeply, as if the world no longer existed.

"Marry me, we share a goal to help those who need it to fight the evils of the world, and we could do it together."D asked.

"We could do it regardless of being dhampire and wife."

"True but as dhampire and wife it makes it more than just a fighting team it adds heart and with that mountains can move."

"Why would you ask so quickly, we barely know each other?"she protested.

"Why not, when you know that you have found the one, nothing should stop you from being with them.."D was amazed that he let his emotion guard down and finally went with his heart.

"True, then yes I will marry you, D."she hugged him.

"Tomorrow, will be the day, nothing will ruin it."D was certain of this.
