Sugar-Worried Valentines

Onward to Uncle Joe

As the Valentines were passed around
The sugar-worried table,
And the hint of the forbidden
Crept along the floor like heavy smoke,
The man from the mountains turned his head
And threatened them prophetically,
That soon all in attendance
Would be hiding in the hills.

The wheelchairs smudged the kitchen floor
As the hostess made her entrance,
And distributed her Batman cards,
Her potpourri and flowers.
She stole kisses from her guardian,
And ate her pizza frite,
While sipping punch from her baby bottle,
And grinning from the praise.

In the corner with her teddy bear,
Sat our old-lady little girl,
Wearing dentures and diapers,
And acting as though she couldn't hear.
She watched the table lustfully,
Present-laden and promising,
And proudly displayed the bows in her hair.
