For Phil

This was written for my friend Phil. Phil is currently in the midst of serving for his second year on Captive Free (he's on Coast to Coast). I met him in November of 1999, and we have gotten to know each other since then at various retreats, concerts, e-mails, and letters. Phil is someone who I concider my best friend.

I know that we will always
Throughout our lives remain
Friends who stood by each others sides
Through highs, lows, joys and pains

I know I'll always love you
In my heart to some degree
What happens to you matters
Because you'll always matter to me

You've known my deepest struggles
My joys, confusions, doubts and fears
You've always lent a friendly shoulder
Though we've been friends less than two years

I've tried to be there for you
Like You have been for me
To offer you my ear and shoulder
And you've shared many thoughts with me

Now we both stand and question
On the threshold of a dream
What does the future hold
Life's not always what it seems

God knows the paths for our lives
Much better than we ever will
Will our paths diverge yet again
Or stay the same...whatever is God's will

Glimpses He will offer us
And as we move towards that end
I am forever grateful for you
For you are truly my God-given best friend.
