Scully goes back to the area and finds another skeleton, this time of Mulder. They believe that this goo they have been seeing every where is a secreted goo like from the stomach that acts like a potent acid. They have a funeral for Mulder but Scully knows something wrong. Mulder is somehow alive and she thinks that the spores of mushrooms in the area have caused them to hullincinate. That they were trapped underground in some kind of giant mushroom that was causing them to hullicinate and eat their skin at the same time. Mulder somehow wake up and pulls he and Scully out and onto the surface again.
While talking to Skinner the next Mulder notices something wrong. To make sure, he takes his gun and fire it at Skinner and reality is faded into goo once again. There still stuck underground in a giant mushroom. Seconds later the real Skinner finds them and with the help of other agents dig Mulder and Scully out of the "giant hullincating mushroom" and are put on the ambulance. The two are weak but grab each others hands
