Scully investigates Crump's home and finds a top secret military project that is giving off radiation causing pressure in Crump's ears. The only way to relieve the pain is to drive westward and quickly, but over time, the pressure in your ear will kill you. Scully finds a cure that would save Crump, but maybe leave him deaf. Crump doesn't care he just wants the pain to stop. Scully plans for a meeting by the edge of a road. Mulder arrives but not on time as Crump dies right before getting to Scully.
