Graphics: 9/10 : The graphics were very good in Half-Life, and still are now considering that its four years old. It doesn't require a 3d graphics card (but if you have one, it looks great!) and, also, the charecters lips move! Okay, so thats not such a big deal, but Half-Life was the first FPS game to do that!
Sound: 9/10 : The sound is brilliant in Half-Life. The music, which can be played on a CD player if you want, sets the mood really well, and the voices are very convincing, although only a few voice actors are used. The soldiers which you encounter in the game communicate through radio, so you are able to hear rather convincing radio transmissions...
Gameplay: 8/10 : Half-Life's interface is great. The weapons are really easy to use, and the Heads Up Display is simple and clear. The game runs well on most PCs, but the only thing Half-Life lacks is decent interactions with the world. If Half-Life could interact with the world like Deus Ex does, it would have scored a 10...
Lastibility: 10/10 : This game will last years. Each time you play, you can find something new, a new way yo go, new interactions between charecters, and the plot twists and turns, which makes you want to play it again. I've been playing it for 2 years, owning it 1, and Shippi has played Half-Life for 3. Both of us are hardcore fans, and really anticipate Half-Life 2. (COME ON VALVe!)
Story: 10/10 : I don't want to give too much away, but here goes... You play Gordon Freeman, a young Research Assosciate at a top secret research facility in New Mexico, called 'Black Mesa'. Its a normal day at work, a few computer crashes, but of course the mysterious Administrator makes the experiment you are part of go ahead. Natrurally, everything goes wrong. Something happens to the equiptment, nobody knows if its sabotage, or just an accident, but it happens, and you and the odd trigger happy security guard fight for your life against terrifying aliens, military death-squads, and some gals in tight leather which are after your heart in a way that makes you wish you'd called in sick. All the way through Black Mesa, you are pursued by these sinister foes, and all the way you are watched. But with all those things after your skin, a guy in a blue suit isn't gonna worry you much right? Hey look, if ya want to know more, you're gonna have to play. Believe me, Half-Life is keeper. Just 'cause its four years old doesn't mean its bad. You don't need a brilliant PC to make it look good (but it helps), and with the High Definition pack, which comes with Blue Shift (where you play as the ever optimistic security guard, Barney Calhoun) Half-Life becomes one seriously cool game!
