History of MST3K

MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000) started with a person named Joel Hodgson. He was a comedian in Minnesota. He met up with Jim Mallon, who had access to a public access channel (KTMA). Joel Hodgson had the idea for MST3K, and got Trace Bealieu and Josh Weinstein for the show.

MST3K first aired on Thanksgiving of 1988. People really liked the show, and after 21 episodes on KTMA it moved to HBO's new project, The Comedy Channel (now Comedy Central). After a year, Josh Weinstein (Tom Servo and Larry) left. Frank Coniff replaced Larry as Dr. Forrester's assistant, and Kevin Murphy took over for Tom Servo's voice.

This cast remained the same until episode #512, Joel left the show *sniffle Sniffle* to fail in Hollywood (I hate to say it, but it's the truth). Mike Nelson, the head writer at the time, took over as host.

In episode #624, Frank Coniff left the show *sniffle*. Season Seven was composed of six(!) shows. They featured Pearl Forrester (Mary Jo Pehl), Dr. Forrester's mother. Episode #706 was Trace Bealieu's last episode, and more importantly the LAST episode on Comedy Central.

After much lobbying by fans, MST3K was picked up by the Crappy-TV-Shows-That-Were-Movies-First (Sci-Fi) Channel (this is when I lost interest). In these episodes, Pearl takes over joined by Professer Bobo (Kevin Murphy) and Observer (aka "Brain Guy").

In episode #1001 (Soultaker), Joel and TV's Frank come back to the show for a reunion. In the last episode (#1013 Danger: Diabolik), the Satellite of Love crash lands on Earth, and the series ends with Mike and the bots watching "The Crawling Eye" (it's so beautiful *sniffle*...XD).
