Zamorak Mage: [you]! You’ve been using Abyssal Space, no?

[you]: Yes.

Zamorak Mage: How would you like to let in on a little secret?

[you]: Sure!

Zamorak Mage: The other followers of Zamorak and I have been working on a new type

of Rune Essence. And since you helped us so much in finding the Essence in the

first place, we thought you could help with this…

[you]: Definitely!

Zamorak Mage: Good. This new Essence is even more pure than Pure Essence. You see,

the reason we need it so much is because we’ve discovered an entirely new Rune

Altar, which we’ve accessed through Abyssal Space. Unfortunately, even Pure

Essence isn’t refined enough to craft runes there. We’ve no idea what sort of

magic spells can be cast with these new runes. We’re hoping they’re so powerful,

we can cause so much chaos that Zamorak will surely rise to power in Geilinor

again! MWAHAHAHA!

[you]: Right… I think I’ll be leaving now…

Zamorak Mage: No! Wait!! If you help us, you’ll be rewarded handsomely.

[you:] Handsomely, you say? Wait, what makes you think you need my help?

Zamorak Mage: You’re less conspicuous. If we Zamorak Mages go poking about in this

stuff, the followers of Saradomin will surely notice. And unfortunately, they’re

slightly more powerful than we are, as of late. But with this new magic we can

surely usher in a new era of Zamorak! Besides, do you want Saradominists to

have the upper hand? Aren’t you adventurer types fans of equality?

[you]: Well sure, but –

Zamorak Mage: NO BUTS! Will you help or not?

[you]: Sure. What do I need to do?

Zamorak Mage: First, you need to create a new type of pickaxe –

[you]: CREATE a pickaxe!?! No Way! That would ruin the delicate RuneScape

economy! JaGeX certainly wouldn’t allow that!

Zamorak Mage: Don’t worry… This pickaxe can only be used to mine Ultra-Pure

Essence.

[you]: I guess that’s okay…

Zamorak Mage: Of course it is! Anyway, my undercover associates in Seers’ Village

have uncovered a secret Smithing factory of sorts that was once called the

Elemental Workshop. Even a great adventurer such as yourself has probably

never even heard of an operation so clandestine as this particular workshop.

[you]: No, actually, I’ve been there.

Zamorak Mage: You mean you know how to smith elemental armour?!

[you]: I dabble.

Zamorak Mage: You are eerily perfect for this job of mine… You aren’t by chance a

SARADOMINIST SPY, are you?!

[you]: Certainly not!

Zamorak Mage: It certainly would explain why you’ve been so eager to help me all

along… How can I test your commitment to Zamorak?

There are three ways to test your commitment to Zamorak. The two simplest ones require

you to have completed Horror From the Deep and that you chose Zamorak. Here they

are in order from simplest to most complicated:

  1. Show him your completed Unholy Book (Z).
  2. Show him your uncompleted Unholy Book (Z) while you’re ‘skulled’. He will then

ask you to bring him 5 skulls and 25 bones. Head to the edge of the Wilderness and

bring 5 of those skulls to him. Also bring him 25 of any type of bone. He will burn the

5 skulls and 25 bones and give you a Zamorak Blessing. For your next hour of gameplay,

you will be skulled and your strength level will be raised by 5 and your defence level will

be lowered by 5.

  1. Bring him 1,000 Chaos Runes and Chaos Talisman (not a Tiara, they are not interchangeable

in this case). He will then ask you for a lit torch. He will heat up the talisman and brand you

with it, which drains your prayer – it cannot be replenished at an altar or with prayer potions.

It will recharge slowly over time. He will then ask you to bring him 5 skulls and 25 bones.

Head to the edge of the Wilderness and bring 5 of those skulls to him. Also bring him 25 of

any type of bone. He will burn the 5 skulls and 25 bones and give you a Zamorak Blessing.

For your next hour of gameplay, you will be skulled and your strength level will be raised by

5 and your defence level will be lowered by 5.

Zamorak Mage: I see that you are truly committed to Zamorak and our cause.

[you]: (if you used the first method) I was committed to Zamorak all along. Looking into

my eyes should have been enough for you to see the chaos that dwells within me!

I’m sure it will be well worth my wait for His chaos to reign.

[you]: (if you used the second method) I was always committed to Zamorak. I hope my

skeletal offerings pleased Him. I’m sure it will be well worth my trouble.

[you]: (if you used the third method) I don’t see why I had to go through all that trouble

for you to believe me… Those chaos runes cost a lot of gp… I just hope it will be worth it.

Zamorak Mage: Yes, of course it will be worth it. Now back to the topic at hand. You

need to go to the elemental workshop and make an elemental pickaxe. Take this pickaxe handle.

And don’t try to make any other type of pickaxe. The handle is

magically programmed to explode and deal massive damage if touched by any

handle other than an elemental one.

[you]: Good. It would be just awful if the price of rune pickaxes dropped drastically,

sending the whole of RuneScape into an economic oblivion the likes of which

Geilinor has never seen since the time of the God Wars!

Zamorak Mage: Now that you mention it, that kind of chaos would be good for my lord

Zamorak. But I’ll save that project for another day. You – go to the Workshop.

[you] go to the Elemental Workshop and make an Elemental Pickaxe. You return to the Zamorak Mage

and show him your handiwork

Zamorak Mage: Splendid job! Now you need to travel to Rune Essence Mine and mine

12 samples of Ultra-Pure Essence with your new pickaxe. But you most certainly

need a way to conceal the Ultra-Pure Essence so that the mage who teleports you

doesn’t see that you have it. Aha! You can use a giant pouch from Abyssal Space.

[you]: Can’t I use more than one of the smaller pouches?

Zamorak Mage: Most certainly not! The Ultra-Pure Essence must be kept in extremely

close proximity to its own kind. Otherwise it might degrade into regular Pure Essence.

[you]: I see.

[you] go and mine the 12 Ultra-Pure Essences and put them in the Giant Pouch, and return to the Zamorak Mage.

Zamorak Mage: You’re doing a great service to his Master of Chaos!

[you]: Yep. Sure did.

Zamorak Mage: Now what I need you to do is go to the twelve altars of Runecrafting and

I need to you craft one Ultra-Pure Rune of each type. One Air, one Mind, one

Water, one Earth, one Fire, one Body, one Cosmic, one Chaos, one Astral, one

Nature, one Law, one Death.

[you]: Why don’t we just take the Essence to the new Altar and make runes?

Zamorak Mage: We need to make a Talisman for the new Altar first.

[you]: Made out of other runes?

Zamorak Mage: Yes

[you]: Alright, I’ll get those for you then.

[you] collect the runes. Be careful not to have all 12 of your Essences out when you go to

craft them at the altar. Make sure only one is in your inventory and the rest are in your

pouch so that you don’t accidentally create more than one Ultra-Pure Rune of the same

type.]

Zamorak Mage: Super! Now grind them up with a chisel.

[you]: GRIND THEM UP!?!?!

Zamorak Mage: Yes.

[you]: But I just worked so hard to make these!

Zamorak Mage: Pardon my French, but “c’est la vie…”

[you]: Okay…

[you] ground them up with a chisel.

[you]: Here they are!

Zamorak Mage: Good. Now, we need to find out how to make the talisman.

[you]: You mean you don’t know?!

Zamorak Mage: Not exactly, no.

[you]: Then how did you know to GRIND UP THE RUNES!?

Zamorak Mage: I knew that much. You need to find the following three wizards:

Sedridor, Distentor, and Cromperty. They each know part of what it takes to

make a talisman.

[you]: How, pray tell, will I get them to divulge this secret way to create talismans?

Zamorak Mage: With an Elixir of Charos , of course.

[you]: And how, might I ask, does one MAKE an Elixir of Charos?!

Zamorak Mage: I wouldn’t know! Ask a werewolf!!

[you]: A werewolf?!

Zamorak Mage: Yes, I know all about the Ring of Charos and how it makes werewolves

think you’re one of them and how it has the power of persuasion.

[you]: How do you know all of that?!

Zamorak Mage: The Old Man in Draynor is a close friend of mine. Go find a werewolf!

[you] should now head to the Werewolf Agility Course, located southeast of Canifis. Pick

the lock to get in. Speak to Murxyth, a werewolf standing outside of the entrance and ask

him about Elixir of Charos. Tell him that the Zamorak Mage sent you, and he’ll tell you how

to make it. You need Avantoe and Nettles (with a Vial of Water). You also need to wield an

activated Ring of Charos while mixing the Serum. You’ll need three of them. When you use

one on Sedridor, he will tell you that you’ll need an Elemental Disk, made from the dust of

Air, Water, Earth and Fire runes. When you use one on Distentor, he will tell you that

you’ll need a Wing of Worlds, made from the dust of Cosmic, Astral, Nature and Law

runes. When you use one on Comperty, he will tell you that you’ll need a Wing of Life,

made from the dust of  Mind, Body, Blood and Soul runes Bring this information to the

Zamorak Mage.

Zamorak Mage: That leaves the Glue of Power, made from Swamp Paste and the dust

of Death and Chaos runes! Perfect! Making one out of Ultra-Pure Runes will surely

create a talisman powerful enough to house the ability to craft runes from our new altar.

[you]: Surely… Now how do I make these parts?

Zamorak Mage: Mix the ingredients and heat them up to very high temperatures. Don’t

use a furnace or a range or a fire, though. Those environments are simply too uncontrollable…

[you]: But Comperty said I need Blood and Soul runes to make the Wing of Life… I

can’t craft these runes, let alone craft them out of your Ultra-Pure Essence.

Zamorak Mage: Oh, crud! I just knew something like this would happen… Why do these

things always happen to ME?!

[you]: Snap out of it!

Zamorak Mage: That’s it!

[you]: What’s it?

Zamorak Mage: I need to “snap out of it.” Of course…

[you]: You know you’re not making any sense, right?

Zamorak Mage: We need to coax the power that’s already within the runes to make them

Ultra-Pure.

[you]: YOU MEAN I COULD HAVE DONE THAT WITH ALL OF THE OTHER

RUNES?!

Zamorak Mage: Of course not, [you]. Only Blood and Soul Runes are powerful enough.

[you]: And how am I supposed to coax their true power out?

Zamorak Mage: Don’t ask me… You just need to find someone with unlimited chaotic

power.

[you]: Like Zamorak?

Zamorak Mage: BRILLIANT! Why didn’t I think of that before?

[you]: I can think of a few reasons.

Zamorak Mage: Go to the chaos altar through the abyss and place a blood and soul rune

on it. Then you need to make an offering to Zamorak.

[you]: What kind of offering?

Zamorak Mage: Well you need some evil blood, and a soul in torment.

[you]: Oh. How do I get that?

Zamorak Mage: I wouldn’t know. Ask someone skilled in  slaying evil creatures.

[you] go see Chaeldar or Duradel and ask how to obtain what the Zamorak Mage asked for.

They will tell you to slay a Bloodveld while wearing a Holy Symbol to get the evil blood and to

slay a Tortured Soul while wearing an Unholy Symbol. After doing so, follow the Zamorak

Mage’s instructions and offer them to Zamorak at the Chaos Altar after having accessed it via

the Abyss. Then return to the Zamorak Mage.

[you]: Okay, I have all of the ingredients to make the Talisman. What do I do now?

Zamorak Mage: Like I said before, mix the ingredients and heat them up to very high

temperatures. You can’t use a furnace or a range or a fire because you need to

have utmost control.

[you] mix the ingredients and cast Superheat Item on them. Then put the parts together

with the Glue. You now have an Ultra-Pure Talisman. You show the talisman to

the Zamorak Mage.

Zamorak Mage: Wonderful! Now it just needs to be charged and we can see what these

new runes do for our fight! Go to the Abyss and talk to the Dark Mage. He’ll tell

you were the rift to the new altar is.

[you] go to the Abyss and speak with the Dark Mage. Follow his instructions to the new rift. Use the

talisman with the Altar of Life and it becomes a Talisman of Life. Return to the Zamorak Mage in

Varrock for your reward. He is fairly miffed that the new Runes are ‘Life Runes.’

Zamorak Mage: Giving Life isn’t chaotic at all! We’ll never have the upper hand! Here’s

a reward anyway!
