I did some research into Satanism ( I already new a little but it's always worth looking around) until I came across a demomination I though would work well (like Christians there are lots of sub religions ). I wanted Satanists not 'Devil Worshippers' - really big difference. The '4 princes' mythology would provided Kade with lots of scope for scaring May - he wouldn't be familiar with Satanic faith and wouldn't know what was going on. And the best bit is, their Satanic idol is an idea given name not a deity, Sam doesn't believe there is a Satan or Christ, and that would really gall May.
The '4 princes' uses the 4 compass points (which Kade uses in place of a pentacle):

South - Satan(Hebrew) the adversary
East - Lucifer(Roman) bringer of light, the morning star
North - Belial(Hebrew) without a master
West - Leviathan(Hebrew) the serpant out of the deeps

Of the 4 characters May is the one who comes closest to an traditional horror stereotype; the witch finder. Slater is a man of faith and hope, May is a man of religion (though he wouldn't see a difference). In traditional horror, the Satanist characters are always formed by Christian notions of devil worship and witchcraft (which May believes in without questions). Sam is the antithesis of May's faith; he is basically an atheist who agrees with Satanic doctrine. Slater wants to do what is right, when push comes to shove he'd walk away from the church if it got in the way of that. May wouldn't, he'd do whatever he was told and, of course, the second he runs into someone with any actual powers he is lost. Kade is powerful and bad tempered and not entirely sane, as is evident in her solution to the possession of Sam's corpses. She is just the type of person the witchfinder could benifit from meeting.
