Jadeite In Fanfics

To tell practically everything about Jadeite, it's pretty much enough to say "well, there was this blonde guy who was stealing humans' energy and fighting the Sailor Senshi. He was a loser, so Queen Beryl put him into Eternal Sleep, the end". It's sad to admit, but our cute fluffy villain is terribly underdeveloped, what is unfair, since a drop-dead gorgeous and yummy bishounen deserves a SO much better treatment. Oh well. Let that be the problem of the animators, who apparently have a very little taste. No offence.

Speaking of Jadeite, his wonderful albeit non-existant personality was something that had to be developed (if not invented) by DK fans and doujinshika. And they did a very nice job giving Jeddy *lots* of personalities, depending on what kind of fanfic or doujinshi was he thrown into.

Definiton 1: When speaking about Jadeite, please mention *what* kind of Jadeite are you talking about.

One of the most popular fanfic descriptions of my dear energy hunter is Jadeite the Observer. This type of him does practically nothing spectacular and noticeable throughout the story and most of the time just watches the emotional and energetic private life of his fellow generals. Sometimes, when the author feels that it's the time for Jeddy, who usually thinks a lot in such fics, to say something intelligent; this is when he becomes Jadeite the Smart Observer. Reminds me of FY's Chiriko, just as much of screen/story time, character and emotion.

Another type of Jadeite is a truly amazing version of him, that is Jadeite the Poor Invalid. It's not as popular as the first one, but really interesting. Basically it's the same intelligent, slightly gloomy, introverted Jadeite, only his character is made more detailed and supposedly deeper in a very original way: the general has some kind of disease. I came across several fanfics of this kind, and all of them are incredibly heart-wretching and tear-jerking. Like this: Jadeite, who turns out to be blind as a bat, gains care and support in Mamoru+Inner Senshi company. Or this: Jadeite is suffering from tuberculosis and is coughing and bleeding most of the fanfic time. Or this: Jadeite almost gets killed (at least is seriously wounded) by Usagi on crack... Please note that I didn't made the examples up, I actually read all of these wonderful inventions of an otaku mind. I'm not mocking the authors, just trying to show the trend.

One of the most... hm... creative versions of Jadeite I ever came across is Jadeite the Ditz. This one is rare, but nevertheless actually existing... In short, it's Jeddy not only being blonde, but acting blonde ^^;;;. He's girl-crazy, probably least intelligent of the four, very often the youngest; I have nothing against Jadeite being the youngest (in fact he *is* in all the stories I create), but as for other traits I mentioned... Yeah, in the original story, Jadeite is a real male ditz. You know, that common Sailor Pluto type of ditziness.

There are a lot more variations on Jadeite's personality. In the doujinshi by "S.J.T." circle, particularly Tabito Kusamakura, Jadeite is an incredibly cute, large-eyed, obviously very young, innocent and naive male girl who's an object of Nephrite the Pervert's desires. Jadeite actively rejects the older general, but since Nephrite is a Big Strong Lusty Seme, the Weak Scared Blonde Uke eventually gets laid and is damn scared of it because sleeping with men (with Neph in particular) is SICK. In his opinion at least. Though it looks like at the very end of my favorite story by "S.J.T.", "Requiem for Precious Earth", Jadeite *sort of* enjoys his condition (and position). Yay.

Definition 2: Jeddy will never admit that he's gay or bisexual unless a Big Strong...etc proves and explains that in details.

As for me, I love the anime Jadeite - arrogant, cold, calculating, avoiding and rejecting everyone and everything but his work, slightly workaholic and awfully light-minded, just like Setsuna-san ^_~. So let me end this little essay on Jadeite's personality with that sweet, chirpy and happy note that proves that Classic Version Is Everything once again. Disappointed? Well, world isn't perfect, dearies.
