The Mole II

Clips of last week's games, some of which were not aired then(specifically comments by Bill), begin the festivities.

Al: "Somebody is going to do something that will intentionally hurt the group. And when that happens, it's every man or woman for themselves."

Katie: "I hope Heather isn't screwing me in this whole coalition thing. I've ruled her out completely, so if she's the Mole then I'm an ass, completely."

I have decided I don't take the cheap ones.

Elavia: "Do you think I'm the Mole? Do 'ya? Do 'ya, punk?"

The new location for the game is Barga, Italy. Anderson thinks the team will enjoy the nice, quiet, quaint little town.

For the first game, he tells them to divide into three groups of three: three players who love to cook, three players who hate to cook, and three who don't really care.

The three who hate to cook are Myra, Katie, and Bill. The three who love to cook are Al, Heather, and Bribs, and the people who don't really care are Darwin, Dorothy, and Elavia.

Anderson tells the people who hate to cook to follow him up the hill. He'll meet with the other six later.

Once with the three who hate to cook, Anderson gives them a crash course on "basic Mole". If you say you hate to cook, you're gonna wind up cooking. Which is precisely what they have to do.

They have bake at least 3 12-inch pizzas in Barga and take them to the church at the top of the town. If they make it, $20,000 is added to the pot and the group gets to eat tonight. If they don't make it, there will be no money and the group has to go hungry tonight.

They will throw the pizza chefs a bone however - Anderson gives them a recipe, a list of 14 ingredients they'll need and an Italian dictionary. The catch is that they have to find the ingredients by going door-to-door at houses in Barga. They can only get one ingredient at each house, and they cannot go to any businesses to get the ingredients.

They have 4 hours to complete their task.

Katie: "We had to have ham, we had to have mushrooms, cheese, olives, and we also had to have herb-infused olive oil to drizzle across the top.

Bill: "Katie, underneath it all, is really a perfectionist. She didn't want to ask questions unless she knew how to conjugate the verbs. Well, hell, she didn't know the language."

In broken Italian, the three amble from house to house with absolutely zero luck.

Myra: "I finally figured it out. You ring the bell, and then you back up because no one answers the door number one. Number two, they look out the window and you know, 'What-do-you-want-a?'"

Bill sings a few chords of O, solo mio to woo a female resident. It doesn't work.

Back with the other six, Anderson tells them their challenge has nothing to do with food. But they do have to bring the wine to dinner. They have to bike up to the church on top of the city. Just making it there is worth $10,000. Also bringing along two bottles of wine is worth another $10,000($5,000 each).

They have to take turns biking, or carrying the bike, while the other two ride in a van behind.

They can choose from two bikes lying beside them - one pink and shoddy, the other silvery and new-looking.

Anderson tells them twice not to touch the bikes, that they must decide merely based on appearance, but Heather touches the back bike nonetheless.

Anderson tells them since biking is taken so seriously in Italy, they must change their clothes.

The six go off and come back looking like authentic cyclists.

Darwin, Elavia, and Dorothy take the silvery new bike, and Heather, Al, and Bribs take the crappy one.

Anderson starts them, first with Elavia and her team, then a few minutes later Al and his.

Bribs: "Myself and Al, being the strong riders, went with the older bike with Heather, and then Darwin was a strong rider on the high-tech bike with Dorothy and Elavia."

Anderson: "Don't worry, it's all uphill from here!"

"These hills are a bitch!"

As he says from the luxury of an open-air compartment outside a car.

Al: "I'm not 23 anymore, and I'm feeling it, feeling it big time."

Darwin switches with Elavia, and Bribs with Al.

Bribs: "The granny bike had one, horrible, slow, monotonous gear. It was unstable, it was heavy. It was an adventure."

While poor Bribs is killing himself, Anderson is casually sipping a drink of some sort, expending no effort.

The pizza chefs find a man willing to sell them mozzarella for 10,000 lire. Once they inform him they can't pay, he is suddenly uninterested. They still have yet to find their first ingredient.

Bill: "We are about an hour into the game, realizing that we're in trouble. The language barrier is too great."

Bribs passes Darwin, who is going so slow he might not even be pedaling for all it's worth.

Elavia: "Darwin kept stopping and trying to fill the tires with air, when they were already filled. I don't know if he was, you know, stalling, I don't know."

Darwin mumbles that he is out of shape.

Bribs: "We didn't go in with the intention of so and so's going to ride for so many minutes, and so and so's is riding for this many minutes. So it's ridiculous. We had to make sure once you started getting tired, switch off, take a two-round, two-person break, hop back on."

Dorothy: "The physical games have been really difficult for me. I feel like that's not where my strength is."

Dorothy is pensive and slow, very difficult in riding the bike. She has trouble even reaching the pedals.

Gradually she gains momentum, but signals for Darwin to spell her rather quickly.

Darwin is exerting himself. Elavia tells him to save his energy for the end, that they need him.

After an hour and a half, the pizza chefs finally find one of their 14 ingredients.

Katie: "We found this young boy, 15 years old, knew how to speak English."

Bill: "We grab him and said, 'Roberto, can you help us?' As it turns out, Roberto knows everybody in town."

He helps them get all 14 ingredients, and even leads them to a kitchen where they can cook the pizzas, all in about 20 minutes.

Katie: "When do you get the opportunity to go into people's houses and really see, you know, people are giving you stuff. It was just amazing to me."

Myra: "One little lady gave us all the cheese that she had. She sat and grated it for us, and I thought that was just so sweet."

Shown on the pavement below Bribs, riding, are the words 'THE MOLE WILL BEAT YOU'.

Elavia: "Dorothy having a lot of a lot of trouble with the bike. Could be that she never rode a bike. I don't know. It just looked a little suspicious."

Darwin: "Dorothy can't go that long. Elavia goes a little longer, but not really that long. So, I'm doing a lot of the riding. And, it's not easy. It wouldn't be so hard if there were about 1,000 less flies in my face. I keep fearing that I'm going to breathe one in and choke and die."

Myra: "So we drag Roberto with us, and then the best part was that he sent us to his sister's house, and we used her kitchen and her oven."

Bill: "Myra was my favorite player. We really have a lot in common. I don't have the foggiest idea what the dark spots in the flour were."

The players are perplexed by black spots in the dough.

Katie: "You know what though? When you heat it up in the oven, all the bad stuff dies anyways."

Bill: "While the pizzas are cooking, we're thrilled."

Myra: "I loved the pizza game."

Back at the bike teams, we see Heather.

Heather: "I finally sucked it up and started carrying it. 'Cuz it just was too hard."

Al: "If I was the Mole, this is the game I'm making an appearance on, so I'm not killing myself. I go 'Ooh, stomach cramp,' you know."

Al takes over for Heather.

Back a ways, Darwin is still plugging away.

Elavia: "The first hour of that bike ride was completely uphill. I just thought it was never going to end."

She relieves Darwin and takes the next leg.

The pizza chefs toast Roberto, their savior in that game. They leave the house with 20 minutes to make it to the church.

Anderson stops Al on his way up to give him "a beautiful bottle of red Lamole wine."

Al takes it and puts it in a covering for safety.

A few minutes later, Elavia gets the second bottle, in her backpack.

Myra: "Bill, the ox, dragging that cart, and it looked easy but he was pouring sweat. Those hills are steep."

They make it up to the dinner tables outside the church, meeting Anderson(my word, he moves fast!) seconds before the carilon tolls at their deadline.

They have made it, earning $20,000.

TEST PASSED - +$20,000

TOTAL - $226,000

Anderson warns them not to complain about steep.

Bribs: "I always get stuck with the physical stuff, man."

Al and Heather impose upon Bribs to carry the bike up the last flight of stairs to the church.

Al: "I'm following behind Bribs, and I can see the top of the stairs and I can see that's the end, and I don't know what I got left in me. I don't know if I can continue to go forward."

They make it up to the top, plenty inside the deadline.

Elavia is shown piloting the other bike, with mere minutes left. The second group has to make it, or no money for that challenge.

Al: "We're here, we have a bottle of wine that isn't broken, and I can sit down."

He shouts "Viva la talpa!" on sitting down.

But they must still wait for the other group.

Elavia is shown biffing it up the last incline leading to the stairs.

Darwin: "Elavia attempts to ride the bike up the incline. Pretty much just falls right over. I pick up the bike and I start carrying it."

Just like Bribs before him, Darwin must make that tough walk.

Dorothy: "When we're heading to the church I just look up those stairs and go 'Oh, my gosh. I can't believe someone has to carry the bike up that hill," and I was so thankful that Darwin was on our team."

They do make it up, but just within the time limit.

TEST PASSED - +$20,000

TOTAL - $246,000

The pizza is actually their dinner tonight, with the wine.

Myra: "If I'd have known that was all we were going to eat, I maybe woulda washed my hands! Before baking the pizza!"

Bill: "We didn't tell them about all the dark spots in the flour dough until later. We didn't know what they were. No sense in mentioning them, upsetting their stomachs early."

Darwin: "I had no idea, but if they could have made more pizza, I know I was starving. Bribs was probably starving. Heather was clearly hungry. And Al's always hungry."

Bill: "After we finished at the church, we all walked down to the parking area where the vans are, and below the parking area there was a small restaurant. They have an ice cream case there, and Darwin and I both bought ice cream."

Darwin: "Bill inhales his ice cream right away and I was going to save mine for the ride."

The players marvel at Darwin's ice cream cone.

Dorothy and Elavia form a coalition in their room.

Elavia: "I actually did just form a coalition with Dorothy. Just because it's easier when the group splits up for two people to gather information. She has my journal, so she pretty much has all the info that I wrote down."

Dorothy: "According to Elavia's journal, I am on her suspect list. So I brought that up to her. 'You know, don't you think it's problematic that we're agreeing to work together and you think I'm the Mole?', and she said 'Well, if you are the Mole, there's no point in me giving you wrong information.'"

As the players gather for breakfast the next day, there is on the table a plate of blueberries, inside which is a message asking 'ARE YOU THE ONE?'

Elavia: "I associated blueberries with an exemption because of Dorothy and the blueberry cake. So I'm thinking, okay, someone's definitely going to get an exemption today."

Anderson says that to him it looked like yesterday was their day to break the rules. Heather touched the bike when he said twice not to, and Darwin and Bill bought ice cream when all they were supposed to have was pizza.

A $10,000 fine is assessed.

FINE - -$10,000

TOTAL - $236,000

He tells them that the last fine was $5,000, this one's $10,000, and the next one will be $20,000.

Al: "I was like, 'Holy cow, I can't believe she just touched that bike.' I think it was just an absent-minded mistake."

Bribs: "Luckily, I either just wasn't hungry enough or it never crossed my mind, cause I would have gotten an ice cream too, I have to admit."

Elavia: "I definitely find Heather's infraction a lot more suspicious than Bill's and Darwin's, because touching the bike is, like, blatant."

Heather: "I touched the elastic on the back of the bike, which really isn't part of the bike technically, so, you know, I could probably get off on a technicality, you know, in a courtroom."

Darwin: "Really, it was just a miscommunication, a misunderstanding. That's a $10,000 ice cream bar."

Anderson tells them to meet him in a nearby church for the next "event".

They meet him there. He tells them that although they get along well as a group, there must be some players they like better than others. He tells them to take the cards he is passing out and rank their fellow players, with the top being their favorite player and the bottom being their least favorite.

Darwin: "I'm thinking, either the first person or the last person on this list will receive an exemption."

Dorothy: "I don't know what this list is going to be used for, so I don't want to reveal too much in case it's made public."

Katie: "My criteria for the most likeable to me is the person I can trust the most."

Upon the players finishing, he tells them all to go outside and not discuss their lists, except for Al, who stays inside.

He reveals his list. Bribs is on top. Al says he reminds him a lot of himself when he was 23. The bottom of the list is Dorothy. Al he doesn't dislike Dorothy, they just don't have anything in common.

Anderson tells him to go outside, not discuss the list or anything they discussed, and send in Darwin.

Topping Darwin's list is Katie. Darwin says this is because she would probably get more votes as least favorite, and he'd spare her that. His bottom player is Bill, but only because he snores so loud that Darwin can't sleep when he shares a room with him.

Dorothy's least favorite player is also Bill, for many the same reasons she was Al's.

Katie's favorite player is Heather, because they have a lot in common.

Elavia's list comes back alphabetical. She says it's true though, that Al is her favorite, Myra her least favorite and the others all fall somewhere in the middle. It's just easier to remember the names when they're alphabetical.

Heather's least favorie player is Elavia. Heather says they won't connect outside the game, and that she doesn't trust her.

Myra is at the top of Bill's list. He says this is because they are both of an age, and he feels he can talk to Myra about things both of them understand.

Bribs' least favorite player is Katie. He says you gotta take her in doses.

Elavia is also on the bottom of Myra's list. Myra says this is because Elavia hasn't won any money for the group.

Myra says she doesn't trust anybody.

Outside, Elavia speculates that the least-liked person will get an exemption.

Darwin: "I figure a lot of people will put down Elavia or Katie as their least favorite."

Katie: "Emotionally that would bother me if I was the least favorite. I knew I wasn't going to be the most favorite."

Elavia: "Maybe I'm last. Maybe they don't like me. Eventually I think the pressure is going to be where everyone's going to have to crack a little bit."

Anderson exits the church. He points at Elavia and tells her to come with him back inside.

Once there, he gives her the bad news that she was chosen as the least favorite. But he has an offer. She can earn an exemption, or add $5,000 to the pot, to try and redeem herself with the players.

She takes the exemption.

Anderson ups the ante to $10,000, and she still goes for the exemption.

His final offer is $15,000, and she still opts for the exemption.

That's all he can offer.

NO MONEY WON

TOTAL - $236,000

Outside, Anderson tells the group that Elavia was voted least favorite.

Elavia: "I took it harder than I thought I would. 'Cuz I really didn't think I would care what anyone would say about me that I had just met. It was pretty tough."

Katie: "When he announced it, she didn't make much eye contact. I mean, that's a hard blow to hear, you're the least liked."

He tells Elavia to explain what that meant. She tells them about her exemption, her second of the game.

Darwin asks where her cutoff was, and she said $30,000. She didn't learn anything about the lists except that the group all hates her.

Myra: "Elavia, please, please, please, don't take what happened in the game yesterday personally. You're as loved as anybody else in this group. Maybe 'love' is too strong a word."

Anderson asks the other players their price, what their cutoff would be. Darwin says $30,000 would be his too. Katie said she'd have taken $10,000, to recoup their fine. Myra agrees that $30,000 is reasonable, but wouldn't have faulted Elavia for holding on to it to $100,000.

The players and host head off to dinner. Myra toasts Elavia.

The topic of discussion, according to Anderson, is the most trouble they've ever been in.

Katie was arrested for peeing in public at Times Square in New York on New Year's Eve.

Al also got in trouble with the cops by climbing in his then-girlfriend's window, since the door was locked. As soon as he got up there, the police shined the light on him and a mad chase ensued. They wound up cuffing him, thinking he was a robber who had been breaking into nearby buildings.

Man, I wish I could tell it like he did, because it was hilarious.

Bribs peed on his sister's head when he was four and she was two.

The players return to the hotel. Roommates Al and Darwin discuss forming a coalition. They share their top suspects. Darwin says everyone is picking Elavia on their quizzes, and Al agrees. Darwin also says the whole 'Kate thing' moved Dorothy up on his list, so those are his top two.

Al: "I'm so reluctant to form coalitions, but I figured if I can form a coalition and get anything out of him, then, it'll benefit me."

They say if they both survive the next execution, they will try to work as a tandem, doing opposite ends of upcoming challenges for intelligence gathering.

Darwin: "I've had many coalitions in the game. It started off with a coalition with Lisa, but that ended when she left. I have the coalition with Bribs, that I'm hoping will carry me through. And I just accepted the coalition offer with Al. I think it's to your advantage to have more coalition partners, so you're not too dependent on one person."

Al: "I need the coalition now, 'cuz it's getting harder. But, if I find out something, I'm not sharing it with anybody, coalition or not."

Now the quiz.

1. Which group was the Mole part of during the bike the mountain and homemade pizza games?

Al: "I can usually read people fairly well, and I think I'm reading Elavia. I could be wrong. Someone at home right now is going 'You ain't reading nothing well! You're way off! It's Bill!'"

2. During the bike the mountain game, which bike did the Mole ride?

Darwin: "I'm thinking if I'm the Mole, the best thing to do is do something really small that people will overlook as a mental lapse. And then, try my best at the game."

3. What foreign languages does the Mole speak?

4. Did the Mole eat steak with lunch yesterday at the Ristorante il Tabarro?

5. Starting from the front, which row was the Mole sitting in yesterday while compiling their list for redemption?

Bill: "Darwin has made a number of glaring errors that could've really cost the group a lot of money. If I had to tally up marks and say 'This person's the Mole,' then Darwin would be my choice."

6. What color shirt or top did the Mole wear to the church yesterday?

Bribs: "Heather's been adamant about me voting for Elavia. Which leads me to suspect that she's the Mole."

7. What musical instruments does the Mole play?

Myra: "My strategy tonight, same as it has been every single quiz, is as quickly as possible, with one candidate."

8. Of the bike the mountain players, did the Mole carry a bike up the final set of stairs to the picnic table?

Dorothy: "Bribs could definitely be the Mole. He is one of the most player-like players."

9. What is the most trouble the Mole has ever been in?

Katie: "I find Bill very suspect. Even when he went into the kitchen every time I went with him."

10. Who is the Mole?

At the execution, Anderson notes Al's and Bill's new hairstyles, spiked like Rob, the last executed player, in a nice homage.

He also informs us that tonight there is another tie, so the executed player is the slowest player along with answering the most questions incorrectly.

Click on the pictures below. If a green thumbprint appears, that player is still in the game. If a red thumbprint appears, that player has been executed and must leave the game immediately.

Elavia is not at risk.

AlBillBribsDarwinDorothyHeatherKatieMyra

The executed player takes it well, remembering all they had. As aired, the executed player was the first and only name entered into the computer, much to the shock of the remaining eight players.

Who is definitely NOT the Mole: Al, Bribs(both of whom have been in the other category)

Who may very well be the Mole: Bill, Dorothy
