Daniel Paul johns ( Lead singer of Silverchair ) was born April 22, 1979 to parents Julie and Greg Johns. To support thier children they owned a fruit stand in the great country of Australia. 

Daniel attended Newcastle schools. At age 5, he began playing the trumpet for his school band. By age 8, he was writing his own songs a music. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing Rugby, and Cricket which he was also very skillful in.  Daniel met his future band mates in grade 3.

At age 12, Daniel recieve his first guitar. He was self tought, but he also took Classical Guitar lessons, which he did not enjoy. He quit after a year. 

The first show that Silverchair performed was a sold out concert in Atlanta. 

In 1996, a prostitue by the name of Paula Gai Knightly took Daniel Johns to court. She had claimed that Daniel stood outside her window, one night, screaming "I love you Paula, Paul, I want to make love to you, Paula." Also, Paula Gai Knightly claimed that Daniel threatened he by saying " I'm a natural born killer. I'm gunna kill you tonight, and I'm gunna enjoy it." Paula, Paula then later dropped the case.

Around that time Daniel became a vegitarian, later becoming a Vegan. A vegan is a person who does not eat animal products, including meat, fish, seafood, eggs, and dairy. But veganism is more about what people choose than about what they avoid. For example, vegans demonstrate respect for all life and their own, the planet's, and the animals',  not only by eating plant-based foods, but also by choosing nonfood items (such as nonleather shoes) that are produced without animal byproducts. Many vegans also go out of their way to choose cosmetics and personal care items that do not contain animal byproducts and are not tested on animals.

"Freak Show" was writen during a very difficult time of Daniel's life. During this time, he was a senior in High School, and he also found it hard to cope with the people around him. He became very withdrawn, and rarely ever left his home. 

Daniel developed many phobia's between "Freak Show" and "Neon Ballroom" . Including  a phobeia of large crowds, and food. 

His phobeia of food lead to Anorexia, which is the reason behind the most talked about Silverchair song, "Ana's Song (Open Fire)".
