I had promised a list of the best Wrestlemanias ever. That's at the end of this rant. I also promised a brief review of every Wrestlemania. Guess what? I lied!
Seriously, I just don't have the time, maybe later.
Well, I was hoping to watch SummerSlam 2000 before doing Wrestlemania X7, but I didn't have time. I will watch it and have a review soon. However, it means that my first review will be pretty crappy, since I don't have a tape of the event. I'm doing it by memory. Well, it was only yesterday...
Now I rate matches on a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being highest. Off with the show.
WRESTLEMANIA X7
IC TITLE: CHRIS JERICHO VS. WILLIAM REGAL
I missed the first half of the match, so keep that in mind.
Highlights included a superplex from Regal and a reversal of The Walls of Jericho to a Regal Stretch. Jericho won with a Lionsault, in an ending that looked tacked on. Turns out Jericho hurt his ankle, so they rushed the ending.
Overall, the match was disappointing, given the quality of the 2 wrestlers. It keeps with my theory though that these 2 are good wrestlers that can only have great matches if carried by great wrestlers.

RTC VS. TAZZ/APA
This was short and to the point. I wish I could have heard Bradshaw's promo. Same old power stuff from all the guys. Bradshaw wins with the Clothesline From Hell because he's from Texas. By the way, the Astrodome looks packed and great on T.V. 67000 fans.
I'm surprised they didn't break up RTC here. Before the Kat was fired, she was supposed to bring them down from the inside, because she's a whore. Thank god they fired her.
2 out of 10
HARDCORE: RAVEN VS. BIG SHOW VS. KANE
This was the most iffy match for me to review. There were some funny spots with golf carts and Raven took an amazing bump through a glass window.
However, there were some cheesy spots, like Kane and Show breaking walls and doors. Also, the ending sequence, with Kane kicking Show and Raven off the platform looked bad, as the platform was about 3 feet high. Kane won by the way, pinning the Show after a legdrop from the platform.
I'm giving this match 5 out of 10, because I found out that Raven misjudged his bump and lacerated the back of his head.
EURO TITLE: EDDY GUERRERO VS. TEST
This was a solid match with each guy hitting their trademark stuff. There was an embarrassing moment when Test got his leg caught in the ropes unintentionally and Eddy capatilized by falling flat on his face. However, they made up for it later when Test kicked Eddy square in the face.
Eddy wins after hitting Test with the belt, after massive interference from Dean Malenko and Saturn.

KURT ANGLE VS. CHRIS BENOIT
I may be a bit biased, because I love these two guys as wrestlers, but I don't give a shit. This was a great match with great psychology.
They start with mat wrestling, but when Angle is matched by Benoit, he gets frustrated and punches him. This sets up the second half of the match with the high impact stuff. Including Benoit putting the Angle Lock on Angle and Angle putting the Crossface on Benoit.
Benoit put the Crossface on Angle and made him tap, but the ref was out. As Benoit checked on the ref, Angle saw his opportunity and won with a rollup. The ending came out of nowhere and was stupid, but it was still a great match, and sets up a rematch.

WOMEN's: CHYNA VS. IVORY
Mercifully, this was short. The only reason this doesn't get 0 is that Ivory took a nasty bump on the powerbomb. Chyna wins easy.
Honestly, I don't see what good can come out of Chyna with the title. With Lita, Molly, Ivory, Trish and Stephanie being decent wrestlers and being embroiled in storylines, it makes everything awkward. A Chyna/Lita match could be profitable though.

STREET FIGHT: SHANE VS. VINCE
This was an awesome match considering that one guy is a part-time wrestler and the other is a 53 year old man. An awesome highlight was Shane missing a top rope elbow and crashing through the Spanish announce table.
That's when the fun began. Trish wheeled down Linda, then slapped Vince. As Steph and her fought, Vince brought Linda in the ring. However, Linda wasn't in a medical stupor, and kicked Vince in the nads. Mick Foley then beet up Vince.
That led to the ending when Shane did a dropkick off the top, accross the ring, into a garbage can, into Vince's face. An absolutely great visual.

On another note, guys representing WCW were: Sean Stasiak, Stacy Kiebler, Mark Jindrak, Sean O'Haire, Hugh Morris, Lance Storm and Mike Awesome. Not a bad beginning set of wrestlers.
TLC 2: HARDYZ VS. DUDLEYZ vs. EDGE/CHRISTIAN
I'm not going to try to do play by play, because it wouldn't do this match justice. Needless to say, this was great and the addition of Rhyno and Spike helped.
My only complaints were that most of the spots had been done before, it would have been nice to see something really innovative. More importantly, I wish the ending would have been more dramatic.
Small complaints aside, this was great, and I'm really happy no one was seriously hurt.
Maybe the one thing I would have changed in the booking is have Lita be put through a table. Then, have Matt tend to her and leave Jeff by himself for the rest of the match.
It would have been a good time to advance the Hardyz breakup if they're going to do it anyway.
All that aside, 10 out of 10
GIMMICK BATTLE ROYAL
I guess this was a good choice to come now, so that HHH and Taker don't have to follow TLC. Honestly though, this was just a waste of time. It wasn't even funny like it was supposed to be. The best part was the commentary, with Bobby Heenan getting off great 1 liners. They should hire him for WCW.
Personally, I would have replaced this with Crash vs. Dean Malenko and continue that storyline.

UNDERTAKER VS. HHH
This was another good match. It was mostly a brawl. The main highlight was HHH being chokeslames off the techs booth. HHH also brought the sledgehammer in. Eventually, though, against all odds, Undertaker got the win in his home town.

This could set up a HHH face turn at Raw. He could argue about where his wife and Vince were to save him. He'll also have another reason after the last match.
WORLD TITLE: ROCK VS. STONE COLD
This was another awesome match. They both bled, put the Sharpshooter on each other, did each others finishing moves and kicked out, as well as doing their own and kicking out. At the end, Austin prevailed thanks to Mr.McMahon.
The best Wrestlemania main event ever, 10 out of 10
It's about time they turned Austin heel. While the fans cheered when he won, that was because he was in his home town, and they all thought he was tricking McMahon. They were expecting to see the Stunner on Vince. All he has to say is that he was fed up of fighting against all odds all the time and he wanted an easier life. Hell, he can even blame it on the fans.
It's also good at this point in his career, as he prepares to retire. After his initial heel push, he can start putting over some faces and retire happily. A good move, that should make for interesting T.V.
Anyway, an easy Thumbs Up for the show. In my opinion, the best Wrestlemania ever.
