Chapter Eight

They all just sit there until Diana looks back and up at Leo, tilting her head back.

"Umm, Leo, one question."

"Yeah?" he asks, looking into her upside-down eyes.

"How?" she inquires.

"Huh? How what?" Leo looks at her, confused.

She turns her body around in her chair so she can look at him without giving herself neck strain.

"How will we get this guy when we don't even know who he is? Or even what he wants with me?" Di bows her head in frustration, and mutters, "I gotta think."

She stands, only to feel Raph holding her wrist, gently trying to tug her back down.

She looks at him with deeply troubled eyes.

Raph lets her go, feeling her pain and knowing she has to be alone for a little while.

She straps her newly acquired blade on and is gone as silently and suddenly as a ghost.

Man, this is SO unbelievably weird. Why the hell does this guy want me?

She shivers, remembering the feel of that man-thing touching her.

Suddenly she realizes she's running, so she purposely slows down to a walk. As she's walking, she wonders how she knows these sewers so well. She's been there for only a day and a half, and for that first half-day, she was out cold for a while, but she still feels like she knows this subterranean system better than her own neighborhood. She doubts the familiarity is from the cartoons and comics she's seen.

She steps out of the sewers and into the rain, making sure that no one is watching her.

Oh, god, I gotta figure this out.

She hunches down into the long rain coat that April had brought her that first day, making herself inconspicuous.

She turns into the park that yesterday's fight had been in and finds a secluded spot. She settles down to do some serious thinking.

"Now, why would this thing want me? It ain't exactly like I'm anything special," she mutters.

"I think yer pretty damned special," a soft, familiar voice says, making her look up with startled eyes.

She looks up into Raph's dark eyes.

She impulsively stands and wraps her arms around him, pulling him close in a loving hug.

A little startled, he wraps his arms around her.

"What's this for?" he whispers into her ear.

"I dunno, I guess it's a thank you for everything you've done for me," she answers.

He rests his head on hers, and they stand there, holding each other in the rain for a few more minutes.

Raph pulls back and looks at Diana, "You figure anything out yet?"

She steps back, runs her fingers through her wet hair and sighs in frustration.

"I just can't figure it out. ARG!" She throws her hands up. "WHY am I so important to this loser?"

Raph suddenly sees movement behind Diana, and sees her jerk forward before hearing the sound of a gun firing.

He catches her and sees a dart with a string attached sticking out of her back. He growls in rage when he notices the figures surrounding them, and he almost completely looses it when the string attached to the dart is pulled and the needle from the dart breaks off inside of her.

Holding Diana, who's unconscious and limp, close in one arm and drawing a sai with his free hand, he tries to fight the figures off. The few who are dumb enough to get within the reach of the sai, are quickly dispatched of.

One guy tries to grab Diana from behind, and Raph swings both himself and the damsel in distress around, stabbing deep into him, killing him.

Abruptly, Diana is pulled away while Raph is dealing with two jerks attacking him.

He howls with anger and guilt as the attackers disappear into the rain.

George is happy. He FINALLY has the girl that the master wanted. At the moment, he's carrying her limp body across his shoulders.

She weighs hardly anything, how the hell was she able to defeat their forces so easily?

Though she doesn't weigh that much, she does have some weight to her. He's surprised when, with a breeze, it is gone.

George looks around in fury.

"WHERE IS SHE?!?!?" he shouts, "THE MASTER WANTS HER FOUND!"

The others scurry around, looking for her and fearing the beating they would get when they return without her.

When Diana comes to, she's on some idiot's shoulders. She sneaks her hand to the hilt of her sword. Her fingers brush up against the stone for wind.

She feels as if she'd somehow turning into the wind, and she's lying in an alley in the blink of an eye.

She stays there, in the cover of shadows, watching as George and his flunkies search for her.

Her hand's still of the hilt of her blade, and her fingers are touching another stone.

George is such an imbecile. She almost jumped as the foreign though leaps into her head.

What the hell..? she asks herself silently.

The group apparently gives up their search and leaves.

After she's sure they're gone, she tries standing.

Oh, man. Big mistake, she thinks as the pain and dizziness sweeps over her.

She looks around for a man-hole.

The sewers...gotta get ta the sewers...

Raph storms into the lair.

Leo and Splinter look up from their chess game as does Mike from his comic book. Donny comes in from his computer upon hearing Raph's entrance.

"What's up, dude?" Mikey asks, seeing the look on Raph's face.

"They got 'er!" Raph practically shouts, "They got Diana!"

Splinter stands and put a soothing hand on his agitated son's arm.

"Who has her?" he asks.

"The...the mooks who wanted her!" Raph responds impatiently, "We gotta find her!"

"'Ave ta find who?" a weary voice asked from behind Raph, slurring the words together.

Raph whirls around and sees Di, swaying in the doorway.

"Diana!" Raph exclaims in surprise, joy and relief.

"Uh huh...da's me..." she mutters, before giving into the drug and collapsing into Raph's arms.
