Potato Pickers Special, on WAGM
Tater Act

This is an annual special in Aroostook County, Maine, which airs early weekday mornings for a few weeks every fall, during the potato harvest season. Basically it gives information about, you know, the potato harvest. I'm not sure I ever really watched much of it, but at least I've always been vaguely aware of it, because when I was younger I used to pick potatoes. Around here, the schools would give kids three weeks off for harvest, whether they were going to be picking potatoes or not, I think. Anyway, my grandfather was a potato farmer, so my sister and I sometimes picked for him. And over the years I'm sure I picked for at least one other farmer. It was hard, dirty work for not a lot of money, but there was fun to be had, too. And I find the work nostalgic. So I thought I should mention the special, even if I can't really say anything specific about it. Except that I guess the theme song was "Tater Rasin' Man," by Dick Curless. So that song's kind of nostalgic to me, too.
