The acts of the movie are separated into seasons, but I won't attempt to separate them here. In fact I'm not sure how much I can really tell you about the plot. There's an aspiring actress named Mia (Emma Stone) who meets a struggling jazz musician named Seb (Ryan Gosling). Things start off rocky between them, or more precisely don't really start at all until after they've met in passing at least a couple of times. But eventually they develop a friendship that later blossoms into romance. Seb decides he wants to start his own jazz club, but instead takes a job touring with a band led by his old classmate Keith (John Legend), which puts a strain on Mia and Seb's relationship. Meanwhile, Mia writes a one-woman show for herself. And... yeah, that's all I really want to say, because I don't want to spoil any major developments.

So... I'll just say I liked the song and/or dance numbers a lot. And I liked the romance. And I liked watching two artists' careers develop. It made me want to work on my own writing, which always depresses me because I know I'm not going to do it. Still, it's nice to feel for a moment like I could. Anyway, I feel bad about not saying more about the movie, because it's really quite good.
