Lancaster Pashionfruits

Pashionfruit is a beloved CTY tradition that originated at Carlisle and first occurred at Lancaster in 94.2. The tradition was brought to Lancaster by Andromeda Yelton (who had just spent the 94.1 session at Carlisle) and was perpetuated by DigiClan and LLRT. Pashionfruit at Lancaster is similar to pashionfruit at Carlisle, but has many distinct differences. The most major is that at Carlisle, the numbers of people attending are decreasing each year, while at Lancaster more and more have attended each year. Strangely enough, the speeches are also getting longer...

Pashionfruit begins at 6:00 in the morning on the last day of each session, at Hartman Green. People sit in a "circle" around the square in the middle of Hartman, with drinks (originally pashionfruit... note the name) in the center of the circle. Before the ceremony, an Emperor and an Empress of pashionfruit have been chosen, each is a nomore that is leaving after that session. The Emperor will open the ceremonies by choosing a drink and with a speech both explaining pashionfruit to the audience as well as his toast. He will then take a sip of the drink and pass it on to the Empress who will do the same. Each toaster stands while making their speech, and then sips the drink, and passes it on to the next speaker. No one is forced to say anything, and many people come only to listen. When a drink is finished, the next speaker will choose another from those in the middle of the circle. Nomores will usually take home the left-over drinks, and, or, empty drink bottles.

The toasts that are made are usually to CTY, typically the things that made the session special to the toaster (ie. the clouds, the people, the oxygen). Toasts are also usually made to the past as well as the future (ie. the next generation, the first CTY students, all of someone's past roommates). The opening toasts are typically light, funny, and random... as the ceremonies go on, they usually get sadder. The ceremonies end around 9:00 for class, recently "End of the Tour", by They Might Be Giants, has been played in the last few minutes.
