The Killers I Created

Xander stakes a vampire, and Willow throws a bottle of holy water at another. Spike reveals in his new found ability to kill creatures of the night. Riley stuns one, and it thuds to the ground. As I fight the sire, I think of all that has changed.

Willow was once a shy bookworm. Xander was her best friend, and Jesse had completed the trio. Poor Jesse vamped the first night. Spike, a vampire who had been a cruel killer before he was turned, learned to love only after his death. Riley was a boy from Iowa, recruited by his Psych teacher to capture demons.

The last two I feel no guilt about. Nothing I could have done would change their destiny. And I know what would have happened if I’d never come to Sunnydale, so I will never wish for that.

The battle ends, and I turn to face my friends. Xander and Willow. The killers I created.
