Author’s Notes: I had a request to continue the story line I started in The Absence of Sanguine. All right, why not? I’ll write one after every episode, kinda a reactionary thing. Of course, the whole thing will be dialog only. This one is set after Are You Know Or Have You Ever Been? taking place in a coffee shop.

Secrets Best Kept: He Didn’t Get Them All

By Cobalite Ice

"This going to be a weekly thing now?"

"Probably. I just do what I’m told."

"We’re gonna have to be more careful. Wes thinks I’ve got a new boyfriend, and if he tells Angel, he’ll go into full big brother mode."

"Alright, next time I’ll leave a more cryptic message on your answering. How was I supposed to know the Watcher would misinterpret, ‘Need to see you, usual time and place.’ How are you holding up?"

"Alright. I was worried about the Thesulac, he’s caused us so much trouble."

"I take it you’ve put it all together by this point, then."

"Brooding vampire meets girl, helps girl escape arrest, girl hands vampire over to bloodthirsty mob, vampire abandons humanity for four decades. Did I miss anything?"

"Just the part where I had to pull him out of a gutter six years ago. If Judy hadn’t revealed him, maybe Angel would have been in better shape when I found him."

"Would they have hanged her?"

"If they had tried, would he have stopped them?"

"That’s what bothers me. I think he would have. Do you think forty years of additional human contact would have made a difference in the long run?"

"We’re on a need to know basis, Cordy. We don’t need to know, because it’ll drive us nuts. All I know is that Angel’s soul had already started the binding process it needed to take over the demon. A few more years and it would have been different."

"So because of one little sentence, he lost his chance."

"Life sucks, kid."

"How many people died in that hotel because he gave up?"

"Too many." *gets up to leave*

"Hey Whistler, you’re wrong."

"Wrong about what?"

"He didn’t get two of them, and that’s enough."

"It’ll have to be. See you next time."

"Next time."
