One of the things that sickens me most about some people is their tendencies to be fickle. I will use the example of anime fandom for now since it’s the one that hits me closer to home. Now, sit down for story time, because I’m going to tell you a story about two girls, one who we’ll call Bobette and the other we’ll call Mary Jane. Now Bobette and Mary Jane were both part of the same group at school. Neither of them were into anime until, well I dunno, but it happened, but oh how differently the story would be for the both of them. Like most girls, they got into Sailor Moon and picked Sailor Scouts to be their alter ego almost type thing, whatever, you know what I mean. Well, months passed, and as Mary Jane grew into an even crazier otaku, Bobette discovered a life… er, other things, for example, ::shudder:: boy crazy-ness. Soon Bobette forgot her beloved anime all together, finding other things to be, in her wrong opinion, better than anime. Mary Jane; however, became THE COOLEST PERSON EVER ::ahem:: even less in touch with reality and more into the wonderful, beautiful world of anime.
The purpose of that little story, kiddies, was to demonstrate fickleness. But now we are left to wonder, how can someone possibly throw away something that was so big in their lives? That is a question I don’t think I could ever truthfully answer, because I myself can’t understand why, but I can guess that maybe they were never really into it to begin with. Sure they might’ve pretended, and almost even believed it themselves, but really they were just going with the crowd, no matter how small the crowd was for example a group of friends. Looking back to Bobette, she even wrote fanfiction! I thought that was the point of no return! Obviously not.
I guess what I’m trying to get at is that with fickle people you start to doubt how genuine they are. This by no means can be taken to mean that Mary Jane hates Bobette, no, Mary Jane just doesn’t like fickleness and can’t understand that mindset. You just start to wonder if you’re seeing the real them, and they’re not just going to be into something for a second and than turn a 180 on you. But then, maybe that is the real them, always searching, but never finding, someplace where they belong.
I’m sorry if you consider this rant a complete failure in getting a point across, but the truth is, I do think of it that way. I was not angry, I was disappointed (heh, when you hear that from the parental unit, it means it is high time for you to book it out of there). Ah well, I guess this topic will never be something I can write about constructively without getting all frustrated. Blargh… Well, I hope you enjoyed it anyway, and if you didn’t like the rant, I hope that you at least liked the names Bobette and Mary Jane.
