How they met: Alan sat next to her at a Dairy Queen in Newnan, Ga., after church on a Sunday evening. "It was his beautiful blond hair, but mainly his great '55 Thunderbird," jokes Denise. "He looked so cool in that car."

First Job: At 12, Alan took a job in a shoe repair store.

First Band: Dixie Steel (The name came from the side of a box of nails.)

First Instument: At 16, his parents bought him a $50 guitar which he still owns.

First Performance: He auditioned for a role in his high school production of Oklahoma! and landed the role of Barnaby. "I remember this so well," recalls Alan's mother. "His daddy said to him, 'You do this, because it may be the only time in your life you ever have an opportunity to do something like this.' He was only 17, and that was the first time we ever saw Alan onstage."

Grand Ole Opry: Became a member in 1991.

Big Break: In 1985, when Denise was a flight attendant, she met Glen Campbell in an airport and told him about Alan. Glen gave her his business card and suggested that Alan call Glen's publishing company. A few months later, the Jackson family moved to Nashville, where Alan record deal.
