Kepora is the Samoan translation of my given English name Debra. (Kep for short)
I developed close ties with the local Samoan community via marriage and continue to maintain them for and through my adopted children, who are of Samoan heritage.
On the Islands, Kepora is a name usually reserved for the first born daughter of the village Matai, a "princess". Am I princess? OF COURSE! Aren't you?
Actually began using the name, when a previously unknown half sister became a part of my life. Her name is Debbie. I also have a cousin Deborah, too many "Debs" for one family to keep track of! So I began using the Samoan version on a regular basis.
Here I am performing a Polynesian dance. I am definitely an beginner and usually only dance with my Samoan family in charity events, but was invited to dance with this professional company on a lark! Samoan Hospitality is famous world wide. But NOTE I am the only one not allowed to touch the fire! A wise safety precaution!!

Special thanks to the Samoan community for accepting me into their mist and extending their hospitality to me and to my children Malia, Eddie, and Kelsi for sharing their beautiful culture with me.
